Possible OC Candidates

Where did the thread go about "Jim Tressel boards a plane at 6:15 this morning headed for knoxville."? Somebody started that first thing this morning, and said they had an inside source, but the couldn't reveal his source. Just wondering if anybody else saw it?

It got merged or deleted the op was trolling

I hear it's gonna be Fulmer as OC and assistant head coach in case the fans and VolNation get Buch fired next year...

I guess the question is (and sorry if posted, but I'm not wading through 500 posts to find out) how many OCs are available that are also a QB coach?

Does CBJ go for that kind of hire or hire a QB coach and a OC?

I like the idea of promoting Coach Z. I also really like the idea of going after Jim Bob. NFL teams are considering him as an OC for a reason.

Kippy Brown! Going after another Super Bowl Ring. Coached in NFL for many years. Got experience in coaching QB, RB, and WR. No brainer!

We're in trouble if we go with an "inexperienced" O.C. I love Coach Z, but an unproven and inexperienced O.C. should not be an option for the Vols. We don't have time waiting (and hoping) that an unproven O.C. "work's out"...

I believe Butch always has a plan B,C and D....

He had to know at somepoint Bajakian would leave...

I think he makes a huge push for Mike Debord and if he doesn't get Debord (who is considered for multiple NFL jobs), he will promote Coach Z.A. from within....

Mike Debord:

During DeBord's first year as offensive coordinator in 1997, Michigan won their first national championship since 1948. As the offensive coordinator at Michigan, DeBord posted a 52–11 record.

Debord? I think he was the OC the last time Michigan won the NC.

He was also the Michigan OC we scrubbed for Clawson when Mallett was wanting to follow him to the SEC. We didn't hire him. He goes to Cal and Mallett goes to Arky

Can't recall how well Brian Griese ran the read option.

I have met butch extensively and one thing I do know is he doesn't make moves without having his plan in place. With this being said, he is following his plan and more than likely hAs someone in place. This isn't just something that randomly happened.

Could you expound on the last sentence please?

I see what you did there lol

Wasn't that Loeffler? Or however you spell it.

Loeffler is complete and total garbage.

I'll really question Butch's decision-making if we hire the guy that is taking Virginia Tech's offense from terrible to close to the worst in the country.

how bout
Tony Franklin- OC Cal
Before people bash him he has the #13 offense in the nation, playing in the Pac 12 which has a history of good offenses, he previously coached at Auburn and kentucky where he was also OC, so has SEC experience and recruiting pattern knowledge.
He also is reportedly a great QB developer.
He runs the spread offense, different form the read option, however I presume he can adapt to Jones's system.

He is expensive though; currently $505K

the more i read about Tony Franklin the more I like him!
He coached tim couch, Dusty Bonner, and Jared Lorenzen- each of which led the SEC in passing while under his tutelage. His first season as OC he has the second best passing offense in the country.
More importantly during his time at Kentucky he was rated one of the top 10 recruiters in the SEC.
He was a bust at Auburn when hired by Tuberville, but when you look further he was fired mid season as the offense was not productive. However when one delves deeper, Tuberville was not a fan of the spread and decided not to pursue it with less than a full season of developing the new system. Changing from the power I running that Auburn had been perviously running to the spread no doubt would have taken more than 6 months to learn. Tubby threw him under the bus before he had time to develop the new offensive scheme. He hits Cal implements the system and produces a very successful offense with players that I feel are inferior to the talent we traditionally pull.
In short:
Explosive offense production
Excellent history of SEC recruiting
excellent developer of college QB talent

We need all of these above. I think he's a perfect fit.
