Possible Drop Off in Strength & Conditioning?

Who puts out the roster? They previously weighed less. Why are they lying now?

Henry T has gotten run over a couple of times... I hope he puts some weight back on. He is much faster though. I don't know if anyone is lying about their weight. To me... they just look a little smaller. If they aren't.... woohoo.

You can get run over no matter how inflated. Ask Brian Bosworth about Bo Jackson. Toto’s able to cover areas he wasn’t capable last year. Jahmir Johnson is bigger and looks it. The only one’s who have lost weight is by design.

Getting tacked easy (RBs), getting pushed around (OL) and not getting off blocks (DL) are all points that have been made by Vol Nation and all issues that can all be associated with the strength of out players.

S&C which was a huge concern of mine going into this season. We promoted a guy who basically had zero Power 5 S&C experience. To me that was a risky decision at best when you consider we had front row tickets to what happens when we fail to replace an experienced S&C coach with an experienced S&C coach.

I hate to give Will Friend an out, because in my opinion each position coach should also know the best S&C routines for their position group, but I cannot help but wonder and worry if there is something to this.
Bump.

Butch promoted from within.

Pruitt promotes from within.

Butch promoted from within because he could not get the funds approved by Hamilton to hire a decent S&C coach. He wanted someone else.

They paid for proven Rock...how’d that go?

One bad decision doesn’t justify another. Rock was old and he is no longer coaching. Your position that the reason our receivers are not getting separation, our running backs are not breaking enough tackles, our pass protection is poor, our Dline has no push, our OL has no push is because of technique implies Graham, Tee, Friend, Brumbaugh, Pruitt, Ansley and Chaney are all failing at coaching. Poor S&C are all common reasons why the above occurs. There is clearly a common denominator.. We just made a change there and we are noticeably getting whipped. It is clear that is the problem.

Pruitt should not have fired Brumbaugh. He should have found a good S&C coach for the money it will cost him to pay out Brum. He could have kept Art on much like he has past assistants who were not ready for the advancement.

Now, a capable guy in my opinion, just made his job of managing more than he has ever managed that much harder. Instead of bringing on even more proven experience to help him, he is taking away from his time to manage everything by pigeonholing himself into a position coach. We did not hire him for that.

I concede I could be wrong. I am no coach. Sheer logic and Butch’s challenges are how I arrived at my opinion. I hope he figures it out. Again, I like the dude.

Just a reminder that shows how important the S&C coach is. When Kirby went to UGA he tried to bring the S&C coach from Bama, Scott Cocheran. Bama responded by making him the highest paid S&C coach. Kirby said missing out on Cocheran was his biggest mistake as a HC.
Kirby finally got him to UGA this year by offering him a coaching position.

Two 4th and 1 stops by the Dline against the no. 3 team in the country left me hopeful about team strength. Online seemed to be outnumbered as much as overpowered, and the ugliest sacks were due to speed, footwork, or choosing the wrong guy to block.

When you get embarrassed, everything is suspect but not sure SC Is the biggest concern.

Going into this season we all knew UGA’s weakness was on offense where they were replacing their QB, multiple O-linemen, and Pittman. Make no mistake that UGA is ranked in the top 5 because of their defense. Their offense is middle to bottom tier SEC.

#1 has lost a step or two or three. He needs to stop bringing the ball out of the endzone. He looks timid now and loses us 5-10 yards every time he brings it out.

I don’t believe our players are at a physical disadvantage. They’ve held up well until the other team takes our offense completely out of commission. Then they fold. They have to stymie that factor and then we’ll see all things being equal.

They have a good S&C and staff. Just need a regular offseason. Before you say “EVERYBODY ELSE didn’t seem to”, Fitz didn’t leave until right before Spring and the official hire got convoluted. These are the same guys who did much of the heavy lifting in previous seasons.

The only time he returns it is when it doesn’t reach the end zone.

The O line is a bit different to me. I say that because teams now are forcing JG to beat us. They are more aggressive to stop the run and in many cases the line is definitely outnumbered in terms of blocking. Do I think they are a tad bit soft, yes. The D line is the biggest disappointment in terms of strength so far. I think a lot of players slacked off and when they are nowhere close to the strength of last fall.

UGA's freaking QB caught us off-guard with his running ability - other teams have since prepared for that

i wish our QB was capable of running every now and then to keep a defense off-balance occassionally
