Positve tweets/comments about Coach Jones from recruits and players.

This is awesome! Have you guys heard of the new construction changes at Neyland Stadium that Cheek, Hart, and the BOT are planning with the new hire of Butch Jones? They are going to improve the view of the Tennessee River from certain points on campus by removing the upper deck at Neyland. There's no need for 100,000 plus seats anymore.

This hire is a joke. Listen, he's a solid coach, but can anyone honestly say they are excited for the spring game, that he will generate immediate excitement on the recruiting trail, that he will bring a buzz back to our program, that he will increase or unite our fanbase, and the answer is no!!! He is not a proven winner in a big time conference. The Big East is the laughing stock of the BCS, and we were dying to hire coach from there. He's beat 1 top 25 team. I'm sorry, but this hire should unite us, not divide us. It should excite us, not cause us to say common guys let's give him a chance!

I've always supported my university as a lifelong vol fan and alumni, but I've had it. This decision not only hurts our program, but it hurts the city of Knoxville economically. Knoxville had a buzz when I went to college here in the 90s. Game days were exciting. Now it's a beautiful place to live with great people and complete apathy for a once proud program among very proud fans.

I'm very excited for the spring game, I'm already bummed out that it isn't football season for UT anymore. I follow the team because I'm an alumnus and I enjoy doing so, I'll enjoy it regardless of who the coach is.

Why are you a fan? So you can cheer for a winning team?

Shoulda known it would be C. Butch: comes from a school that's half bear and the other half cat. #rockytop #VFL #welcomehome

And there's a UT in his first name...

I like this hire alot...I'll be anxious to see how his staff turns out...it needs to have a serious SEC (and hopefully some UT flavor to it)

I've never heard of a fan openly admit that they are indifferent if their team wins or loses.

You do know there was only one (very scant) possibility for the kind of hire you seem to want. Gruden said no.

After him, none of the others including whoever #2 was had the star power to show up and create that kind of "buzz". ALL of those after Gruden were going to have to work and win games.

Yes, give Jones a chance. And while you are sitting around feeling sorry for yourself.... or apathetic... or defeated... do a little history on big time programs that have had to ride on the coaching carousel for awhile.

UGA did it for years. Bama did it for a couple of decades. LSU for longer than that. Texas, USC, ND, etc. They all had to work through some coaches before finding the guy who brought them back.

UGA did it by hiring an FSU assistant. LSU did it by a guy who escaped Mich St after being on a serious hot seat. USC did it by hiring an NFL coach down on his luck.

ND.... well ND did it by hiring a Cincy coach with a resume remarkably similar to Jones'.

Mods, please clean up most of this thread to the "Football Talk" thread. OP had a fantastic idea, but it's just become a continuation of what we already had.

TIA :hi:

Didn't you read the last sentence? because he's a "proud fan".

/sarcasm

I wish people would calm down a little and see how things turn out. Or just burn their orange regalia and stop embarrassing the University as badly as they claim the hire embarrassed us.

He's won everywhere he's been. Give him a chance to see if he continues his trend.

I'm just disappointed, but believe me I've been a lifelong fan, and I have suffered like all of us through some tough seasons. I have unwavered in my love for the Vols, and I will support them next year. Jones Press Conference seems high energy. He looks like a football coach. I will be excited when the time comes, but I just feel like we could've done better, but I hope he surprises me and the other disappointed fans. I'm not the only one. Only time will tell. Go Vols!

Where could we have done better. Please tell me.No one wanted the job.He does. And he has a better track record than Dooley.Let's see.Drooley was 17-20 when he got the job.Jones is 50-27 currently. And he 4 conference titles to boot.Doolander has0.Butch Jones wants this and his approach is relentless and i love it.Drooley had zero confidence and it trickled down to his players. This coach is full of confidence and this is what Tennessee needs. You are either with me or against me.Go VOLS........

Where did he say he was indifferent? He said he was committed to the Vols win or lose.

Pretty easy inference. Suggesting the poster he was responding to was wanting to cheer for a winning program as if it was a bad thing.

The only concern I have is his recruiting. He's never been anywhere longer than 3 years, in 20 years of coaching, and has never had to play the kids he recruited.

80-90% of Cincy's players were recruited by the previous coach...

I'm worried, no lie

Hmmm...69 players on Cincy's 9/24 two deep depth chart...19 seniors and 5 redshirt juniors...24 non CBJ recruits...that's 35%...not 80-90%. Wish our two deep had that kind of experience...

Give the guy a chance...4 conference championships in 6 years.

Sheesh...

:bash:

Dan Gray @Ballhawk_23 I like the mind set of our new coach

John Propst @jpropst47 Can't wait for my last off season to start with Coach Jones. Can't believe I'm already a senior but i have a good feeling #VFL

Mo Couch @MoTrilla44 For sure Butch Jones is a players coach! #VFL

Mo Couch @MoTrilla44 4 man front hell yea!!!!

Jacob Carter @DoctorCarter3 Coach Jones is about to make this environment very competitive amongst players. This is a good thing.

A person tweeted at Corn Elder and said "@AIR_CORN23 Tennessee and Coach Butch Jones need a RB like Corn Elder!" and Corn retweeted it.

Off the topic a little bit but Swiperboy just tweeted @Swiperboy My #VFL tellin me it's time to do what i do and make a new song.. what y'all think? #SB

:bash:

He started 20 of 22 players that Kelly recruited. You do the math. Or, in 3 years as Cincy's head coach, 2 of his recruits broke into the starting lineup.

It was the same at CMU, he has never had to recruit players and then play them. CMU is like 15-23 since he left playing his recruits.

He's ridden Kelly's tail, and coached at each place for 3 years. Then left before he had to play his guys...

@MoTrilla44: Tee Martin leeggggooo!!!!

Mo Couch is the f'ing man, so glad he's gonna be leading this team next year

Butch Jones looks like a good game day coach, which I don't think Dooley or Kiffin was. My only question is his ability to recruit. He would do well to load his staff with assistants who have either coached in the SEC or at least in the south for recruiting purposes.

Didn't Butch Jones have to rescue a 2010 Brian Kelly class? He also got Tompkins to transfer to his school. Think about what Dooley had to do back in 2010.

I like what I heard! I've also liked what I've read and what I've seen on around the we. I think we got the real deal here! Can he recruit? Well that depends more on his staff and whether or not we can win, than it does him. Let's bring in a new defensive staff and Tee and see what they do.

I like the emphasis on taking back Tennessee when it comes to getting the good recruits here! Been a long time since we had a coach that wanted to recruit in the State. I'm tired of our best in state players ending up at other schools. I also liked the statement that he would change his system to work with the strength of his players, instead of the other way around!

I'm very optimistic and I think he will prove to be a great hire!!!

Have you seen the video of Coach Jones dancing to rap in the locker room at Cincy??? That won me over. He willprove to be a good coach and help us build back to championship level
