Because Strong with his ties to SC & FL would recruit better, which would lead to more wins.

This I would agree with, which is why of all the 'question mark' coaches that were being looked at, Strong was on top of my list. I personally think Jones may be a better x's and o's guy, but think Strong could get the talent in here better.

I did. It was stupid and childish. I can leave and get a new username or stay. I figured I'd just stay.

You made a bet. Stick by your word. Don't come back. Unless this site is really all you have in life.

This isn't meant to bash the hire, but does Butch Jones have recruiting contacts in the the South? I thought UT would go with somebody with SEC connections or at least southern connections given the importance of recruiting particularly in the SEC.

Well he bring connections to the fertile Ohio recruiting area and if he's smart he will fill his staff with great recruiters that have connections all over the country. Obviously we need to emphasize the SEC area but we are in Tenn so we do need to recruit coast to coast to be able to match schools like bama in recruiting.
Now if he brings his current staff to say I'll be upset will be the the understatement of the year.

This is awesome! Have you guys heard of the new construction changes at Neyland Stadium that Cheek, Hart, and the BOT are planning with the new hire of Butch Jones? They are going to improve the view of the Tennessee River from certain points on campus by removing the upper deck at Neyland. There's no need for 100,000 plus seats anymore.

This hire is a joke. Listen, he's a solid coach, but can anyone honestly say they are excited for the spring game, that he will generate immediate excitement on the recruiting trail, that he will bring a buzz back to our program, that he will increase or unite our fanbase, and the answer is no!!! He is not a proven winner in a big time conference. The Big East is the laughing stock of the BCS, and we were dying to hire coach from there. He's beat 1 top 25 team. I'm sorry, but this hire should unite us, not divide us. It should excite us, not cause us to say common guys let's give him a chance!

I've always supported my university as a lifelong vol fan and alumni, but I've had it. This decision not only hurts our program, but it hurts the city of Knoxville economically. Knoxville had a buzz when I went to college here in the 90s. Game days were exciting. Now it's a beautiful place to live with great people and complete apathy for a once proud program among very proud fans.

Lol, the guy who is demanding that someone resign from a free internet board is talking about having no life.

Think harder.

Don't have to its a stupid comparison. You are implying that the Butch Jones to Charlie Strong gap is similar to one of Sumlin to a 3 time NC coach, and Chiznik to a coach who is 45-7 in 4 seasons. Not to mention, the sample sizes are off. The comparison sites 2 1 game sample sizes vs a 3 game sample size.

Three games means three times the sample size than the examples you cited.

2-1 shows a pattern or trend, especially when that one loss was AT UofL, deep into overtime.

3 games is hardly a pattern or a sample size.

Saban was 2-3 against Tuberville while he was at LSU. Does that mean Tuberville is a better coach?

No - I'm implying nothing about any gaps between coaches. I'm implying that quoting his record against Strong is a stupid argument for why one is better than the other.

Three games is not a sample size. It's almost entirely meaningless.

I can agree with that.

Hopefully with time and Prozac, your outlook will improve. Back away from the ledge, the ledge is for gators.

Also, both of these coaches have about 40% of their players recruited by some other coach.

Dont worry about things you can not control. But then all we can do is be supportive and maybe influence:hi: how players feel about the fan base.

So....hey....about this thread being about comments from players/recruits/alums about Jones...

I'll say this, seeing how Jones players at UC felt about him, and the way UT's are absolutely starving for something positive...I actually have a little faith UT might actually beat somebody they aren't supposed to next year.
