I'll be stunned if he doesn't hit the portal and move on. With what we're losing plus the uncertainty at QB not to mention coaching staff, I just can't see a reason not to seek greener pastures. Wish him well. Having said all that, the guy really is a safety. Might even have an NFL career if he'd put ego aside and make the move.
Why are we surprised with Joey? He put up great yardage and TD numbers at App State. And don’t tell me the competition he played against; he played with weaker talent around him too. Too many ignore the concept of relativity when evaluating players and coaches. The level of competition isn’t the only aspect of the equation that changes.
Your argument is misplaced. I was pleasantly surprised since I had no first hand data to derive an informed opinion. Nico was a known quantity at the time. Joey was clearly talented based on his past numbers but I think most on here could agree that it was a wait and let’s see what we got approach, especially with the compressed schedule for learning the offense and developing cohesion with the players. Heck, Im glad we got him and hope he can run it back next year
I’m surprised he put up 3500 yards because no one has in this offense, I’m not surprised he put up 2800+ and I’m not surprised he put up more than Nico. We saw that Nico couldn’t connect on deep balls and was consistently late and high across the middle so unless he drastically improved his vision and timing we saw his ceiling last year. That was cemented by his season at UCLA.
