LV softball player Melissa Davin is having shoulder surgery today in Knoxville to repair the torn labrum in her left shoulder. Hoping that Doctors don't find any other issues and that they are able to get her on the road to recovery!

Thank you for your prayers!!

Not trying to be a smart azz but labrum surgery is a fairly common surgery that usually responds very well. I've had this surgery twice. Asking for prayers is a little over the top, don't you think?

...but you still managed to. I don't know squat about LV softball or any of its athletes, but if someone feels compelled to ask other supporters to remember an athlete that is having surgery, why does this bother you?

Prayers sent and that God would melt the cold heart of bigbadvol.

1) Mel had a MRI without contrast in December so they don't know the extent of her labrum tear. They are hoping it's a posterior tear and not a complete "Slap" tear. She reinjured the shoulder during the "Boot Camp" in January and then again & again during her softball season, the Doctors were/are hoping that she doesn't have rotator cuff issues. They won't know until they get in there.

2) Mel just had hand surgery in May and she is still rehabing that and with the shoulder surgery... she will miss all of Fall practice. The rehab for the Labrum tear could be 4 to 6 months if there are no other issues... could be a lot longer if there is rotator cuff issues.

Melissa's good friend is the catcher at UCLA... had labrum surgery on her throwing arm... she was out a year and took almost 2 years to completely regain her arm strength.

3) Mel is starting her senior season at UT and with Shoulder and hand rehab... it will be tough to be ready and in game shape come start of the season to play at an elite level.... off course, this is a kid who broke her hand, had surgery to put a plate and 9 screws in her hand... rehabbed for 2 weeks and made it back to the world series with 2 hits in the championship series against Oklahoma.

4) BigBadVol.. I am sure you were and still are an elite athlete and your 2 labrum surgeries were needed to get you back on the field and playing at the highest level and that you came off one surgery to go into another surgery.... I am sure you were a stud athlete before and after the surgery!

Prayers for her, may she mend quickly and soon be back on the field as the terrific representative of University Of Tennessee athletics she is.

Melissa is out of surgery and is in recovery. Don't know all the details but it sounds like she had a big tear but no rotator cuff issues.

Amazing the season she had despite the tear - sure do hope the rehab goes well, she is a key to the LVs winning the NC next season.

I have known people who did not wake up after simple surgery and died. You are either over the top or insensitive. Perhaps you are just ignorant.
