1) Mel had a MRI without contrast in December so they don't know the extent of her labrum tear. They are hoping it's a posterior tear and not a complete "Slap" tear. She reinjured the shoulder during the "Boot Camp" in January and then again & again during her softball season, the Doctors were/are hoping that she doesn't have rotator cuff issues. They won't know until they get in there.
2) Mel just had hand surgery in May and she is still rehabing that and with the shoulder surgery... she will miss all of Fall practice. The rehab for the Labrum tear could be 4 to 6 months if there are no other issues... could be a lot longer if there is rotator cuff issues.
Melissa's good friend is the catcher at UCLA... had labrum surgery on her throwing arm... she was out a year and took almost 2 years to completely regain her arm strength.
3) Mel is starting her senior season at UT and with Shoulder and hand rehab... it will be tough to be ready and in game shape come start of the season to play at an elite level.... off course, this is a kid who broke her hand, had surgery to put a plate and 9 screws in her hand... rehabbed for 2 weeks and made it back to the world series with 2 hits in the championship series against Oklahoma.
4) BigBadVol.. I am sure you were and still are an elite athlete and your 2 labrum surgeries were needed to get you back on the field and playing at the highest level and that you came off one surgery to go into another surgery.... I am sure you were a stud athlete before and after the surgery!
