*****Portal Watch

Caveat that it’s impossible to predict perfectly right now as they still are after some big fish and lots of these guys can play numerous spots, but give me:

C - Wright/Lawless
1B - Clark
2B - Advincula/portal guy
SS - Marin
3B - Newstrom
LF - Abernathy
CF - Newman
RF - Ford
DH - Schoolcraft/Grimmer

Friday - Landon Mack
Saturday - Tegan Kuhns
Sunday - Brayden Krenzel

Batting order would look something like:

1 - Newman
2 - Advincula
3 - Ford
4 - Wright
5 - Clark
6 - Schoolcraft/Grimmer
7 - Marin
8 - Newstrom
9 - Abernathy
Schoolcraft is a pitcher (and unlikely to make it to campus, as I understand).

Portal Commits

Clay Edmundson (draft risk)
Mason Estrada (draft risk)
Bo Rhudy
Brady Frederick
Garrett Wright
DJ Newman
Henry Ford (draft risk)

Portal Targets (Will Update)

Jarren Advincula
Landon Mack
Blaine Brown
Dylan Grego

It's important to note that the portal is still open for almost 2 more weeks: there will be MORE guys jump in during that time! Heck, last year both Fischer and Doyle didn't hit the portal until the end of June
I believe Rhudy is a draft risk as well.

I agree 100% that coaching , strength and conditioning , nutrition , living arrangements , travel and overall experience is better in the SEC than anything less than AA pro ball , the only two big differences is school and signing bonus money , hopefully the new 34 full ride scholarships and NIL can convince some of these guys to go to school

The House settlement has been challenged via an Appeal - in most situations such Appeal would suspend the application of the settlement terms.

@Weezer Can you put this ^^ on page 1?

Let me put a finer point, respectfully:

6. No debt may depend on how much of a scholarship the player had at his previous school. It sounds like players will not have debt from attending Tennessee.

Also, not all credits may transfer, so that may limit majors at the new school. An Owl told me that when he switched schools, not everything transferred, so his major became criminal justice (which he wasn’t terribly interested in and wasn’t going to have a career in, but he was earning his degree).
I was responding to a question regarding high school seniors who have a chance to choose MLB or college baseball. The transfer decision is certainly more complicated—especially as you pointed out the challenges with credits transferring. Plus, some majors won’t be available at some universities.

Forgot Myatt. He gives you another Right handed bat for the DH spot or can play in the OF too. There will be lots of options

Also some of the freshmen that will make it to campus are good enough to play early, though a lot of them will probably run into similar problems this class ran into in that there’s lots of talented guys ahead of them too

Seibert is definitely one of top 3 starters.
We will see. Coming off injury and was raw when he got here. Crazy talented. If he puts it all together you’re probably right but my gut says he’s a bullpen guy this year and stays his junior year to be a weekend starter.

Myatt bats Left. I think he has a good shot for DH role with his pop depending on how he adjusts to better pitching.

Stupid question:

Why are we cautiously optimistic that Ford makes it to campus, but for sure that Curley doesn't stick around for another year?

To me the profile is extremely similar; both draft eligible sophomores that had less than expected results this season, both could improve their draft stock with a strong bounce back season, etc.

Schoolcraft is a 2 way player and has a decent chance to make it (although he could easily sign too)
Schoolcraft is projected to be a 1st Round pick as a pitcher. That's his future. I seriously doubt he does anything but pitch at UT, if by some miracle he makes it to campus.

Where are you hearing Schoolcraft has a decent chance of making it in? He's projected in the 1st rd and is regarded as one of, if not the top prep LHP in the draft. He's not got much to gain by coming to school. Obviously, it would awesome to see him make it in for our sake, but his advisors can't be making sense of that option if his draft projection is accurate.

At 6’8, he will not slot into the lineup. 6’8 lefty is a weekend starter jackpot. Apparently there has been some buzz around him making it to campus from Ben McKee. Him and Appenzeller.
Appenzeller likely makes it to campus. Schoolcraft has a chance but could easily sign as well. The pitch to get him to campus is to let him continue developing as a 2 way player.

He has a high number and it will have to be met for him to go. It absolutely could be met because as you said he’s a huge talent.

The vols pitch is selling him on being a 2 way player and developing in the SEC vs the minors and betting on yourself to be a top 5-10 pick vs second half of first round, which is a big money difference.

Fair question, I think Curley has already made a decision though. I seem to remember Tony saying something about him at the end of the season like "we are going to miss him next season, he's been a perfect player, teammate, etc".

Major draft risk. Probably one of the next one or two signees off the board for our group after Billy Carlson. Steele Hall is in that group, too. All three guys are likely 1st rd picks.
Carlson and Hall will not be on campus. Ethan Moore likely will not too. Schoolcraft and Appenzeller are the big ones. Appenzeller likely makes it. Schoolcraft much more of a battle and will be a tough pull, although there’s optimism they can pull it off

The 3 transfer portal pitcher commits likely gone - Estrada best chance of them all. Have a chance with Barr too and that’d be a huge one, but probably going to go pro. Close to 0 chance for Edmonson.

Ford has a big number and as a draft eligible sophomore retains leverage by coming. Lots of thought that he had a down sophomore year and could become a first rounder again by coming here and hitting .300+ with 15-20 HRs and 50+ RBIs. They will sweat that one out but good chance he’s in.

Schoolcraft has legitimate "Caglione" ability. If he made it to school, he could quite possibly be your everyday 1B and a weekend starter, as well. He's draftable at either position, but obviously his pitching skill-set as a 6'-8 LHP with upper 90s gas is obviously the most marketable of his skills. At the college level, the issue would be does Tennessee need him to be both? The embarrassment of riches we've compiled in regards to talent is absurd.
