'25 Portal Thread

Ok, now need a WR and a DB. Finally adding some portal pieces. Turned out to be a good day. Basketball pickup, football added depth.

College football has turned into an NFL type model. When you sign a guy to a multimillion dollar deal, then you pay him to start. But you don’t bring in a guy that you pay the minimum to start. It’s about money and not uprooting the roster. Then, as the season goes on, you evaluate and can let go of the starter if his play doesn’t justify the salary. There is no more bringing in 85 high level guys and letting them play for it. It’s a pro model.
Well said. Plus you don’t have the budget for 85 SEC starter quality players. It’s why Saban quit and Kirby are bitching so much. They can’t stockpile talent like they used to.

we prob paid him well. he was being recruited by miami and others
Probably $30,000 to 50,000
That is near the going rate for back up DL and OL
Starting linemen get 200-500,000 unless you are a LT
Those numbers may be low for this late in portal
He is getting a big bump by moving to P4 with swag

I can't really blame Jakobe, tbh. He wasn't guaranteed the starting spot, and he doesn't seem to be on any NFL GM's radar. This is likely his last chance to make money playing football. If he can get an extra $100k or $200k, think about how that could change his life. It could mean he'll never have a mortgage payment, for example. And if managed properly it means he can retire a lot earlier than most.
I agree with you in sentiment but brother 100k ain’t buying much in this housing market.

If Heupel knows his roster is in trouble, he needs to lobby boosters for more NIL money, like other coaches have done. This is the downside of the new dynamic, but it's up to him as HC to adjust. His job is to win games. One bad season won't cost him his job, but multiple bad seasons might. I want Heupel to succeed, but I don't believe in making excuses before the season even happens. He's the head coach. Everything ultimately falls on his shoulders.
What’s your source that he hasn’t lobbied boosters?
