'25 Portal Thread

It’s obviously too early to make any conclusions yet, but if we do strike out everywhere, I think diagnosing the “something going on” is fairly obvious. Nico’s selfish behavior screwed us.

People in the portal want playing time but they also want to win. We have no QB right now. WRs probably want to go somewhere with a bit more certainty. And if you’re Watson, why would you go to Tennessee who has serious questions about offense if Georgia and Texas are after you?
You mean, Ohio State. Georgia is not a destination for an above average WR.

We aren’t aggressive enough and never have been. Look what Georgia did this past weekend. They QUICKLY identified what they wanted, brought them in for visits and signed them. They don’t “evaluate” for a week.
They identified 3 dudes who - other than the Army Edge who is a portal special (i.e., overvalued by sites due to overall + even further specific positional scarcity) - nobody else of note wanted. Think the Illinois back is any better than Star Thomas? Or that the UNC DL from the state of GA (that UGA didn't want two years ago out of high school) is any better than what we have? IMO their aggressiveness in the spring portal - especially on the defensive side of the ball - is indicative of the fact that their roster is no longer elite after a massive NFL drain the last 2-3 seasons.

I'm not defending our portal strategy per se. I think we crushed it with the two OL but that in contrast Pope completed sh!t the bed. And so far I agree we've been pretty slow although it seems to be picking up. I think we'll land a DL - because Chop and G are the best out there - and it seems like we'll end up with a WR. But attempting to contrast our approach with UGA's is inaccurate IMO.

But a standard felony would get you suspended for a half against a Kent st ,

so they have standards too

JH and company have this laid back tennessee recruits itself kind of attitude and it worked the previous two years because of results and its wore off. now they actually have to put in the work earning their paycheck and it’s not paying off…which is alarming..my frustrations with JH outside of his horrible time out management has been this exact persona he carries and the other coaches follow..zero urgency in anything when it comes to filling needs..

I’m starting to think he sees nothing wrong with our roster at all and it lacks depth and talent to keep up in close games..I’m slowly losing my patience with how he’s managing the roster so far outside of his first two years here..boils down to him knowing his job is safe for the next 3 years at least unless he falls flat on his face out the gate.

O line has regressed since losing Pruitt recruits. Hendon was a Pruitt transfer. Best receivers were holdovers. Paid millions for an average QB who walked out as quick as possible. No depth at receiver, RB lost Mark who was a great evaluator and coach. I think our offensive staff needs a big boost. We have won off of talented RBs and defense the last two years.

Very thankful for the defensive staff. They are great coaches and good recruiters. They have carried this team the last two years.

Hope we can beat out UConn
Watch, we’ll land some recruit over uconn and other small teams and everyone on here will be like “so much for the Heupel can’t croot narrative” like they always do, then wonder why said player doesn’t play or is bad

Why are we recruiting like we’re some mid level ACC team? seems like we’re shopping in the bargain bin for everyone this transfer cycle? I’m sure the BYU receiver is too high of a price for us too smh

This portal year for us has truly been so bad. We're just not going to be aggressive with top quality talent like the top 5ish teams at this point. Unfortunate but seems like that's the deal going forward
LOL I wouls be happy if we were keeping up with Indiana, Illinois, and Missouri.

Our recruiting has been rancid.
