I was upset when he left because of how much excitement and hope he brought in just one season. Hamilton made it easy for him to leave contract wise. I would personally move JP, big Jim and All the rest of these clowns myself if it meant getting Lane back in Knoxville.

Okay, this might be instructive. What was it, specifically, about his one season as head coach that generated so much excitement and hope? Please be specific. Was it the 7-6 record? The losses to Florida, Auburn and Alabama? The 42-17 shellacking we took from Ole Miss? The loss we suffered in Neyland at the hands of a 6-loss Pac-Ten team? The 23-point embarrassment in the bowl game to the Hokies?

Maybe it was when his players committed that armed robbery. I guess that was pretty exciting.

That is why his wife at the time hated Knoxville.every time she went to the mall,Layla always saw a "Fire Lane"sign painted next to the sidewalk.

No. Why would I hire a guy with a reverse resume? Raiders-TN-USC-FAU-Ole Miss? Aside from FAU, doesn't a resume work in reverse? Like Muschamp, he is probably a great OC....but man, as a HC he has issues. What is it, we're at 12 years post Kiffin, and this guy still hasn't matured into an adult? Hire him as an OC....I'm fine with it. He's damn good at it.

Yes I would take Kiffin back. There are people on here who want Freeze and Briles as our coach who sexually assault and burn phones, but don’t want a guy who took a dream job?

I’ve left jobs for places that seemed better. The timing isn’t always perfect.

Chaney has always been a great offensive coordinator until he went to work for Pruitt. Pruitt is just like Fulmer, a control freak who ruins everything he touches.

Pruitt might very well be the whole problem....but Chaney has been good everywhere until he got to Guarantano. He’s a huge factor in this as well.

Kiffin left us without warning and killed any chance we might have had for a successful transition post-Fulmer. We needed someone who would come in and "right the ship" and instead we got a guy who took it into deep water and scuttled it.

While he was here, he recruited a bunch of criminals and other guys who failed to contribute much of anything. He committed recruiting violations, ignoring specific warnings in the process, and brought unwanted NCAA attention to the program. He violated SEC rules by making accusations against a fellow coach and was forced to issue a public apology. For all that, we were rewarded with a season where we finished one game above .500 -- a 7-6 record with his trademark victory coming against a mediocre UGA team. We lost to everyone else that mattered, including an embarrassing showing against Virginia Tech in the bowl game.

But somehow now we have fans daydreaming about a return to that mess, like jilted lovers who can't let go of a bad relationship. And why? Is Kiffin setting the world on fire in Oxford? They're 3-4 with wins against Kentucky (by 1 point), South Carolina and Vandy. What am I missing here?

Pitiful is the only word for it.

So you believe he would behave as he did before? LOL.....I certainly believe he's matured since he was here last time. Maybe you don't and that's YOUR opinion. Most people do mature so to insinuate the same things would happen is remarkably short sided. What are you missing? That Kiffin is miles better than our current coach and if can't remember, we lost to UK 34-7 AT HOME

What is the statute of limitations on hurt feelings?

Hell yeah, I'd have taken him back when we hired Pruitt. (we all know no way Fulmer would have done that though)

Life and failure has a way of humbling people. Kiffin was a young, hotshot jackass when he was here, and the way he left was totally wrong. I can't blame him for leaving, though, with his history at USC.

Since his time at Bama as OC he seems much different, more mature. I'm glad he is having fun at Ole Miss and wish him well.
About 7 losses.

You may not believe it, but prior experience turns out to be a pretty accurate indicator of future performance most of the time. He was a grown man when he was here the first time. He had been a head coach in the NFL. Maturity shouldn't have been an issue. And he was a disaster. It's telling that no one has addressed the points I made earlier. Miles better?! Pruitt is 2-5 and Kiffin is 3-4. We can aim a lot higher if we decide to look for a new coach.

I really think Kiffin may have some sort of appeal to certain people that is just inexplicable to the rest of us. Maybe I just haven't ever gazed into his eyes long enough.

Who is his HBC, the El Capitan of the ship, makes millions $$$...where the buck stops, you know...for THE LAST 3 YEARS.
But lets scapegoat an underachieving young athlete that WE recurited and Pruitt didn't recruit over.
Sheesh, JG's shortcomings have been evident for a long time.
It's like blaming the mule ya bought because YOU overloaded the cart.

(too many caps but I am too old n lazy to edit)

I agree that we should aim higher. I've been around quite a bit in my lifetime so I don't need the character lecture. He was handed some coaching jobs when he was very young. The whole "grown man'' lecture is silly.

Dude...I'm not sure if you're just pulling my leg here, or what. If you really have "been around quite a bit" then you probably shouldn't be so sensitive. Nothing I said was personally directed at you. We're just disagreeing about Kiffin. No one was lecturing anyone and the fact that Kiffin was a grown man the first time he was here is just an immutable fact. Nothing "silly" about pointing that out.

Anyway, my biggest complaint about Kiffin is that he has just not proven himself to be a very good coach. He may get better, but right now I just don't see why people are so enamored of him.

I was referring to the Kiffin leaving situation in my opening line
I know. The statute of limitations is based on the number of losses, not time. If we’re doing well then hell no we don’t want Kiffin back! If we’re throwing up 7+ losses suddenly he seems like a pretty good option. Not all think that way but there are some that do. I’m in the no camp myself. He’s about an 8-4 coach for his career and has been so at every stop. That’s not bad but that’s not what we want either it seems. I’d take Freeze before Kiffin.
