There is also a contingent of “fans” that are unhappy if they can’t predict misery.

This poll should help define that they make a lot of noise with limited numbers. Unfortunately they are proud of their own and their buddy’s efforts, follow the LIKES.
Yep…I guess the question mark was rhetorical but I’d agree with your diagnosis. My brother in law is a high profile psychologist/author/podcaster/TV personality. I’ll ask him for the disorder…I’m sure it’s named after the Vols for prevalency…hope it’s not contagious!😂😳..

Two things are true, the defense has no where to go but up and it appears it takes 2-3 years for his defense to become as effective as we'd like it. The question becomes, does he get that long of a leash here. We will get better because we're so bad we essentially can't get worse, so that should get him to year two, which will be a make or break year for he and Heupel, and the schedule is brutal in 2027.

some of the responses in the other thread are shocking to me, so I'm curious.
I voted for homerun hire, but I am between that and good hire, could have done better. I don't think he is the best out there, but he might be the best available, and he's definitely an upgrade from Banks and that would mean its a homerun hire.

I said good could have been better, just because there was no option between that and home run.

home run implies everything will go smoothly from the first year, and I don't think that will be the case. I still think he is a great hire, but short of a "home run".

OK so he was the DC at Ohio state with all the talent in the world. Then he just decides to leave and go to Penn State. Why? And then Penn state is total trash on defense and offense. Now this is a home run hire. Someone please explain
The 34th defense in the country, despite the wheels falling off for the entire team and program, is not "trash." Our defense was closer to 100.

By most accounts, this is a home run hire, but I understand that his defense can be complex with a bit of a learning curve. Supposedly, this explains why the PSU defense looked bad at times. Assuming that it takes players time to learn and look bad initially, it will require some patience on the part of fans to let Knowles put the pieces together. That may be hard for some folks. On the other hand, most of us would be happy to see an upgrade in their ability to tackle on contact. Watching Indiana, I was impressed at the way they could tackle.

I thought there was no way we’d actually pull the trigger on a big name. Dude was the highest paid DC last year. I appreciate James Franklin for sucking enough to make this happen.

This is a hire that a program makes that intends on being a national contender, and they were smart in waiting until after signing day to not trigger any panic reactions or negative recruitment against us.

I wonder how CJK will shake up the staff under him?

They were still 37th in total defense while Tennessee was 93rd. Even with a learning curve or whatever the spin is, that’s an upgrade

My thoughts? We got a decent hire done quickly. Allowing JK to assimilate quick and early, get squared away in preparation for the spring and summer practices, go over film of the team and opponents, etc. Maybe meet with players in groups and individually to create a viable connection. Get his coaching
hires/associates in synch. That's my thoughts anyway.
