Voted No. Why put all of our eggs in one basket, ie, HB or BM when we have no idea how they will perform or worse yet, if they get injured. Yes, JG has had his ups and downs and he may not be the starter, but why force the issue of transferring this early. Why not diversify and keep our options wide open until we narrow our choices down to the clear starter? JG’s services could be needed badly next year just like this year so why eliminate that option right now. Regardless of his performance he has earned the right to be called a VFL and he deserves a chance to at least compete. If he’s not the starter and wants to transfer, fine, but if he wants to stick around as a backup or help out his team any way he can, why on earth would we prefer that he transfers? We mitigate a lot of risk by keeping him on our roster, at least for now.

If JG starts next year it is an admittance that offensively this staff has failed to either recruit well enough or coach the QBs up. JG is not an SEC caliber starting quarterback. Even our wins are painful to watch behind his poor QB play. They must start Bailey if this team is to improve next year.

He reached his ceiling long ago and will be the rate limiting step to this team next year........please go and play for Rutgers.

The guy is what he is. No need to relentlessly bash the dude. It’s not his fault he’s the best option they had this year.

Never.

A bunch of dumb azz fans being mad isn't going to affect the team. The players and coaches all want JG at qb.

Get over it and leave the kid alone on on Twitter.
You don't think the players were distracted by him during that bama game? Or the bowl game? I agree to leave him alone on Twitter, but you're in denial. There's no way the coaches, and players, didn't wish all year they had a better option.

I'm sure they wish the QB was better, the o-line was better and that we had a Heismsn candidate at RB. Wish he was more consistent, but the notion that he's some sort of distraction is mostly a fan narrative I'd say.

So let follow the timeline.
He gets a tug on the facemask at Bama. Focus JG

Next in the weeks leading up to mizzou he get threats to himself and sister...instead of going to an authority i.e coaches, UT admin, KPD he goes to a radio host....focus JG

Mizzou game. Still no traction on threats thru local radio host....Has career game. Jot Not enough focus on that..mentions threat on live tv so it gets noticed...FOcus JG

Team play uninspired vs Vandy and then again IU...

Now. Cryptic tweet about descions while waiting for NCG focus JG

After NCG. Tweet he is returning. focus JG

Selfish and a distraction..maybe he needs to spend more time working on accuracy and timing. Then making suee he stay in the public eye..

Oh and BTW. Nothing has come of the threats. So now UT could said to not be able to protect its students because nothing about an investigation has come forth...FOCUS JG.

While I agree that JG's inconsistency is extremely frustrating, even Trevor Lawrence missed pretty badly on several throws in the CFP. I am not saying that JG and TL are comparable, but I think if you are going to get a mixed bag from one of the nation's best, maybe it is unrealistic to not expect some missed throws from JG.

The problem is that people expect it to happen more times than not. For every laser he throws to the sideline on the next play against Florida, you can count on 3 misses to DWA or the horrible pick he threw later on in that drive right to the Gator corner.

I hope I’m wrong here, but I don’t think he can help get us above 8 or 9 next year.

It’s time for him to start making other players around him better and not relying on them to lift him up.

The difference is JG has 2.5 seasons of completely inconsistent play. Lawrence had arguably his worst game and it was a 17 point loss in the Natty, which is his only loss in college. Regardless of one game, his body of work is still great and has shown in his short career, he has improved and progressed. Saying that 1 game (his only loss) results in a "mixed bag" for Lawrence is funny. I wouldn't say he is giving a mixed bag of performances when he's really had one horrible game. Of course the crazier thing about Lawrence is he had like 10+ bad overthrows, no interceptions, and lost by 17. Game seemed like it was 20-30 point beating.

JG will look like he will take 2 steps forward and then a string of outings make him take 5 steps back. His season averages by year show that.

The previous 7 games Lawrence had 22 TDs and 0 picks.

JG is at his best in the hurry up when he doesn't have to think the receiver has to be open for him to have success he can't throw the receiver open coach JP is hard on him if he has thick skin and can put up with it stick around if not go to a division 2 school where the windows will be bigger.

I will say for the third time that I’m not looking to compare TL and JG. Obviously TL is in a different league than JG. I will gladly concede that mixed bag was a poor choice of words. TL has been spectacular in all but one game.

My statement is simply this: if one of the best quarterbacks in college football can look extremely pedestrian at times (albeit it’s infrequent), then why don’t we cut JG some slack. He is bewildering and frustrating as a player for sure. I still think he has potential to be a top 5 QB in the SEC and feel that he is our best bet going forward. Not too long ago, he had the highest career completion percentage in UT history. I hope Bailey comes in and sets the world on fire, but until that happens you have to roll with JG imo

WIth a decent O-line, maybe even a great one depending on the Mays decision, JG could end up being a pretty damn good QB. I honestly think his problems this year were a result of getting the absolute Hell beat out of him the year before.

This post is a prime example of why I hope he transfers. I'm a fan of JG and until HB evolves in to what we hope he will be JG still gives us the best chance to win.

No player especially one who gives his all deserves the amount of hate and criticism JG gets with this fan base..

Did any of you never JGs watch the LSU Clemson game? if so you saw Lawrence overthrow or otherwise miss same with Barrow. No QB is going to be perfect every throw.

Hoping to see consistency from JG next year. After all, he no longer will be taking classes, so that's one less distraction. If nothing else, he makes a decent back up option.

Sure did. And just like like the rest of the world i was shocked Lawrence over threw that many times in one game..not every throw has tl be perfect and TL didnt miss that often. His NC game was an exception...with JG thats a standard game

Why did he get worse with better talent around him??? How much of him getting beat to hell was on him holding the ball to long..its not all on the OL

Why dont we go ahead an petition the NCAA for a 6th or 7th year of eligibility??? Maybe thatll be enough time for our SR QB to develop

Here is your chance, as a fan, to say whether Jarrett Guarantano should transfer.
In my opinion, this guy is a warrior. He has given his all for the team and for the school.
I am curious whether anyone would say he should transfer.

I like your posts and see where you're going but I for one thinks UT stands a better chance of a great season with JG at the helm. I know that's not a popular opinion but I could care less about popularr. I want wins. JG gives us the best chance running the O...... Let that sink in arm chairs.....oh wait, you've had to many cold PBR's.

Yes, because JG is in the same stratosphere as those 2 guys.

Why do people keep bringing these guys up? When JG throws for 22 tds and 0 picks in the previous 7 games then he can get a pass .

He’s a tough, good kid, but I’m sorry JG does not have the in game equity built up to get that pass.. Especially, the way he trended in the Vandy and IU games.
