Compared to what?

I voted Yes.

Compared to what we expected at the beginning of the season, No.

Compared to what we expected after the Georgia game, Yes.

It is very hard to think of anything as a success after making it to two games left in the season and the only thing standing between you and a shot at the NC are two teams you’re favored against by 20+ and you blow it. I can understand why people would vote Yes.

No, it ended up being much better than most anyone anticipated, despite that travesty last night.

Now, the important thing is to win the off-season. Hold the recruiting class together. Huepel has to make some tough choices on the defensive staff if we are going to take a step up. Let's hope he can make them.

At the very least, can we wait until the end of the season before evaluating the season?

Even if we lose to Vandy the season isn’t a failure. There is nothing that can happen to make this season a failure. People can come up with whatever BS excuse they want. We were top 5 for a good amount of the season. Beat Bama and boat raced a good LSU team on the road. Beat UF. We’re in the conversation for a playoff spot and could have maybe won the NC. How long has it been since we have been this relevant? Certainly not under the past 4 coaches.

Figures you would chime in with more ignorant crap. You are a failure. So are you gonna trash the players and coaches like you did in 2016? You gonna say Hooker is trash like you did with Dobbs?

Ad-hominem attacks are a logical fallacy. What do I have to do with the question of whether or not this season is a failure?

When you are the #5 team in the country in the college football playoff poll and you lose by 25 points to a terrible South Carolina team the season is a failure.

It would be one thing if we lost on the final play. Upset losses happen all the time. However, it's inexcusable to get ran off the field by an unranked team as the supposed #5 team in the country.

If you answered Yes to this poll, you're either:

1. A troll, likely not a Vol fan at all.... or

2. A complete fecking idiot. Please find another team/site to follow because you obviously do not understand the dynamics of college football nor appreciate that we are in the midst of THE fastest and best rebuild known to mankind.

We were ranked #1 in the CFP standings less than 2 years into a rebuild from THE worst seasons in UT history at 4-8 and 3-7. That is truly miraculous and i resent this poll even taking place honestly. Perhaps it will serve to identify the trolls and idiots though.

Was the season a failure, of course not, just defeating UF and Bama guaranteed that. THEIR only failure was failing to finish what THEY started. 8 wins was the preseason expectation but not after the Alabama game. Clearly the latest expectation was making the playoffs or the Sugar Bowl.

To go from a 3 win season two years ago, to a bowl last year to being in the playoff hunt for a big part of the season. OK, we still have a shot at 10 wins for the first time since 2007 when we went 10-4

This season is far from a failure even though it seems like it right now.

I wanted the playoffs, you get this close, who doesn't? However, in July would you have believed a soul if you were told we would have been in the conversation? I know I wouldn't have.

Last night was about as inexcusable as could be. However, we were due one. Georgia is Georgia I picked that and Alabama as a loss to start the season and we split those two games. We beat Florida and we absolutely demolished LSU in Death Valley.

I will not complain about this season, now should these boys go to Vandy next week and lose, I may feel a bit differently but my honest opinion, no this season is absolutely not a failure.

I hate to see Hooker gone for the year, it sucks that last night will he the last time we see him on the field for the Vols. He's done a lot on and off th3 field for the university and is a good kid. Hope he heals well and we get to watch him on Sundays
