A nice hike in the mountains? Great idea. Sort of like Mao‘s Long March to avoid the forces of Chiang Tsi-shek and preserve the People‘s Liberation Army for future battles. Capital suggestion commrade 😉
People seem to actually think I take myself seriously 😲. This IS my therapy friend

Call me extra silly then!!!!!

Since 2008 the 13 seasons before Heupel got here. Tennessee had 8 losing seasons. 8 losing and only 5 winning. None of those were better than 8 win in the regular season.

Now for 2 years in a row Tennessee has been winning, scoring and the games have been fun and competitive in almost all of them.

The team is 9-2 with wins over Bama which has been what 15 years coming? How long has in been since Tennessee has beaten Bama, Florida and LSU in the same season?

Hey I’m REAL good just to see Tennessee become good again. Hard to win championships before you become good. Your not going to win everything until you start winning on a regular basis.

You have obviously never been the best or one of the best at something. You don’t just decide hey I’m going to be the best. You got to work at it. It takes time and you got to go out and earn it. Once you finally get there you WILL realize everything else certainly WAS NOT wasted because it made you better, it made you work, it built you into the best.
What’s the point if they aren’t going for it all? Do you consider it a “win” and a “success” to drop a little blue pill? It isn’t. Moral of the story is never accept impotency. Always celebrate potency. If they aren’t playing for the championship you’ve already admitted your acceptance of failure. Don’t he a limp loser.

In terms of what was projected of the season, as long as the Vols beat Vandy and win the bowl game, No.

In terms of being #5 in the CFP with the likelihood of being 3 or 4 once Michigan and Ohio State played and to then piss it away to an inferior team by being blown out, yes.

Not a failure. But wait until after Saturday's result to label this season. A loss to vanderbilt at the end of the season cancels a lot of the feel-good about this year. Last Saturday morning as we were all switching back and forth watching TCU and Michigan "about to go down", there could not have been a worse script written to end that day. Sports can be a cruel, cruel pastime.

Sports just suck lol. But you're right, the whole question is poorly timed.

Saturday was a massive failure, who knows the next time we’ll have that clear of a path to the playoffs. The season overall wasn’t a failure though we massively overachieved.

That's the part that I don't think a lot of people will admit to themselves. We are basically going to ride an elite passing game to a 10+ win season with what in reality is probably a 7 or 8 win roster. This defense has been holding on for dear life all year long and getting away with it.

At 9-2, let's see how the faithful define this season.....

For the record, I am a major supporter of this this season being a massive success.
That was a disappointing loss but the reason it hurts is that the potential was so great. For YEARS... we've been numb to losing late in the year because it didn't mean anything.

Deal with the issues at DC. They're not new with this game.

Get more talent.

Don't forget what happened... ever.

One of the things I think many forget is this season is a product almost of pure coaching by Heupel. UT more than like isn't a roster with 10 win talent. IMO there's at least one hole in the talent of the staff. But here we sit with an opportunity to beat Vandy and get to 10 wins. Win a bowl game and finish in the top 10.

Not sure how anyone can deem it a "failure".

Failure no. Extremely disappointing, yes. A veteran team with solid NFL talent. Talented enough to make the playoffs but the defense's ability to cover the pass cost them big time.

Based on what Heupel did with what he had this year... I don't think it will be long before UT is competing to get into the playoff. He did massively overachieve and now has an opportunity to pull in the talent where this level of success and better won't have to be considered an overachievement.

Anything less than 8-4 would’ve been a failure or at the very least a “stagnant” season. In year two of rebuild Heupel had this team ranked number 1 at one point. This was a very successful season, despite last Saturday.

I don't see how anyone can call a potential 3 game minimum / 4 game maximum win improvement over last year is anything but a raging success.

3-7
7-6
9-4 / 10-3 / 11-2

The rankings/success creates false expectations is the only thing I can figure out. Coming into the season I thought we had 2 loses and a lot of toss ups (KY, USC, LSU, FL, Pitt). Going 4-1 in the tossups and 1-1 in the probable loses is amazing.

People see the rankings and say "if we were number one, how can we lose to this team", without realizing that we are dead even with them in terms of recruiting.

No, it is not a failure. It is an amazing result. There has been some disappointment for sure, but the only way this season can be failure is if the team allows the recent loss to lead to more bad things. Is it as good as it could have been, or even should have been? No, we should have beaten South Carolina for sure. Still, winning at least 9 and hopefully 10 games after going 3-7 two years prior is incredible progress.

Even if they do tank during the last couple of games, staff can get back on track next season, but it will absolutely damage the momentum they had been building, which makes it harder. It will be a reason for concern if that happens, but maybe we can fix it. On the other hand, if they show up and play their best against Vanderbilt and in whatever bowl we get, we should all be pleased and very optimistic.

Either way, what happens in the future with how they handle it does not take away from their earlier accomplishments. Beating Alabama, LSU, Florida, and setting offensive records are something to be proud of, no matter what happens. The season might be a success or failure at the end, but those accomplishments still stand.

Another thing to add: we can be pleased with the body of work and progress, but also disappointed with the missed opportunities that should not have been missed. Season can be success but also worthy of some criticism.

I thought 8 wins would be a good season!!! But, it will be a failure for the future if Tim Banks isn't fired!!!!!

The record at this point is better than I predicted. I had us at 9-3 preseason. It isn’t the record that has me upset. It is the lack of development and effort that cost us against a team we should have beaten by 4 scores. Seeing that effort, being without Hooker, and facing a Vandy team that all of the sudden figured out how to play…9-3 is still a realistic possibility. The upsetting part is beating Alabama and losing to the second worst team in the SEC east.

We are entering the last game of the season #9. With wins against UF, Alabama and LSU. Ranked #1 and #5 with talks and consideration of playing in the playoffs. The 2022 season wasn’t a failure. It was a good season.

I can honestly say I did not think it would be ranked in the top 10. Much less top 5.

I can't believe even a single person voted yes on this, much less 50. Good grief.

You tell me at the beginning of the season we have a legit chance at 10-2, beating Florida and Bama, top 10 finish and a New Years 6 bowl and I would have laughed in your face. I thought 9-3 or 8-4 and no way we were ready to beat Bama yet.

This season got us back on the National radar. That’s huge for recruiting. We were #1 in the country, even if just for a week. The Vols are back and it’s all started with this team and this season. It’s a success 100% and anyone that disagrees doesn’t know what they are talking about.

I’ve had a blast the season watching this team (last Sat excluded). So much so it killed my productivity during the week I was so excited from week to week. I will never forget being at the 202/ Bama game and going into the field.

It sucks we fell short of a goal that wasn’t even on the table at the start of the season but otherwise the season was a massive success for the program.
