False. The FG percentage on 50 yarders last season in the NFL was right at 70%. And that’s for all the kickers. If you have a really good one it’s probably close to 75-80%. There is a guy that can make a 70 yarder now. 50 yards in college should be the new norm.It “matters” when we’re up 31-3 in the 4th quarter?
Also, that was a 50 yarder. Those are 50/50, even in the pros.
There are no guarantees when it comes to kicking. Even a guy who missed zero kicks all season, Gary Anderson, missed the potential game winner in the NFC championship in 1999. Even Mike Vanderjagt missed a game tying kick in the playoffs in 2005. Even Jeff Hall missed a couple of crucial kicks in 1998, despite making the game winners against UF and Syracuse. Nobody is perfect. Nobody is a guarantee. We have a very good kicker. Hopefully he gets even better. It’s possible but I want a full guarantee. Get a clutch kicker like the one from Oklahoma that wears the daisy dukes when he kicks.
do you call out the wide receivers when they drop an easy one when it matters? How about the linemen when they miss a block or tackle 'when it matters'. When does a play not matter? They all lead to the end in one way or another. He’s not reliable when the pressure is on. He had a crucial miss against Oklahoma too (not end of game / momentum shift miss).
They better upgrade or he will cost a game or two next year. JMO.
