Playing time at WR this season!

Brandon Johnson the best WR on the roster right now. Always under the radar. He gets no respect from this fan base. You take Brandon off this roster what experience would you have? Yall keep praising Gibbs but he has never played a game in college at the WR posistion. Brandon way more explosive then you think. Keep sleeping on Brandon.

Not everyone is sleeping on him. The slant vs Florida was all I needed to see. He doesn’t go down easy and made the catch look easy. I’m a believer

Just get the ball to Hyatt in open space and it's over for the defense.
I keep thinking this same thing. This kid is lightning in a bottle. When he is on the feild the D must have help over the top. Otherwise he will simply outrun whoever is trying to cover him.

I’m very excited about this WR Corp!! Also, only 1 more year of JG. Hopefully Bailey is ready to take over by the end of the year!!
End of the year?? How about the end of winter workouts? We can’t withstand another game/season of Guarantano. Bailey, Maurer, Shrout, Hill, Holliday....anybody needs to take the starting job just to make sure Guarantano doesn’t take another snap at Tennessee.

Not going to happen no matter how many times you say it and deep down you know it. Your prediction of doom and gloom is not going to happen either.

No disrespect to you or Brandon, but he's not the best option. They brought in Velus Jones a grad transfer. Gibbs hasn't had the opportunity yet, but everyone on the team thinks he will be bigtime.

Palmer is better.
Keyton is better.

Hyatt is probably better.
Gibbs is probably better.
Velus Jones is more explosive.

None of this means Brandon can't have a big SR season.

I'm a Brandon believer but my post to that regard got removed for some reason.

None taking. What has Keyton showed you that makes him better than Brandon? I dont see what make Palmer that better than Brandon. Brandon Sophmore season was better than Palmer season last year. Hyatt has never played a down nor has Gibbs. Jones basically was a return specialist on special teams play a lil slot here and there.

When it was finally decided that Harrison Bailey would be coming here, Keyton began to catch everything thrown his way.
He's 6'3 and he's faster and more athletic than Brandon.

Brandon as a SO was better than Palmer as a True Freshman. But Palmer has improved quite a bit. He's a legitimate deep threat and run after catch threat. And both have had 2 seasons with the new coaching staff. Look at both of their stats over that time span and compare.

Hyatt has Brandon's route running ability and hands except he has Randy Moss speed.

The fact they brought in Velus could mean they weren't comfortable with they had at slot. I'm not saying that's true, because Velus is a return guy too...and that could be the main reason.

I think Dee Beckwith is going to line up in the slot and will be starting by the Florida game.

Brandon is slept on but I don't believe he's the best WR on the team from a talent perspective. Experience wise you could make the case but he doesn't have to be the best player to make a huge impact for us. He just needs to be solid and consistent.

Man am I excited for our WR core next year even though we lost a lot. Obviously we don't have a lot to go on but what would be your early predictions? I put their recruiting ranking stars beside just for a gauge of talent we have coming for those who don't know much about them already.

On the team for at least a year
4* DeAngelo Gibbs 6'1 200lbs - I think this dude will be a problem just by watching him in practice last season snagging catches
4* Ramel Keyton - 6'3 185lbs - Showed some good things his first year
3* Brandon Johnson - 6'2 175lbs - Very smooth route runner, this has got to be his year to shine
3* Josh Palmer - 6'2 200lbs - We know what we're getting for the most part.
3* Jerrod Means 6'2 212lbs
2* Cedric Tillman 6'2 206lbs
PWO Isaiah Montgomery 6'0 207lbs

True Freshman
4* Jimmy Calloway 5'11 165lbs
4* Jalin Hyatt 6'2 170lbs
4* Malachi Wideman 6'5 190lbs
3* Dee Beckwith 6'5 215lbs

Transfers
USC
4* Velus Jones Jr 6'0 190lbs
Nebraska
4* Miles Jones 5'9 166lbs

Hopefully Brandon Johnson is able to step up, he could make a huge difference

Lots to be excited about when it comes to future of our WR corps. As far as next year..

Palmer - Obvious clear starter, excited to see him get some more looks
Gibbs - Appeared to be a play maker in practice last year, lets hope maybe he can step in and be the DAWG we're losing with JJ. Not sure if coaches see him as bigger inside slot guy or outside.
Brandon J. - Think we'll see him on a regular basis in the slot, especially early in the year due to his level of experience. Not explosive but seemed fairly reliable
Velus - College game experience, SEC ready body, and plenty of speed to burn. A potential homerun threat that I hope can be a consistent WR for us, rather that be inside at the slot or out wide.
Keyton - Hopefully takes that next step after a full offseason getting bigger and stronger. Has all the tools and will have ample opportunity to earn a starting spot in rotation.

Those are the WR's I would expect that have the top spots on lock as long as they progress and perform well through spring & fall camp. Keep in mind we run a pretty varied rotation of WR so likely all those will be on the field early in the year at some point at the very least. The next list of guys..

Tillman, Montgomery - these are guys that personally I believe will only see the field in limited action. They're just simply not the caliber of WR that many of the others are.

Incoming frosh
Hyatt, Wideman, Beckwith, Calloway- All extremely talented and each provide something a little different. I wouldn't expect all of them to come in and contribute this year but wouldn't be surprised to see 1 or 2 of them develop throughout the year and push for more playing time. Especially if one of them can prove to be a reliable option in the slot.. As almost any of them from an athletic/explosive standpoint would be an upgrade over Johnson.

Velus biggest contribution might very well be in the return game as a replacement for Calloway. He was a superb punt returner for USC last season. Maybe Kickoffs too.

Lots of talent there, just need to find ways to get them the ball. I'm expecting big things from Keyton & Palmer. I think we could see Velus Jones in on some interesting packages. Hyatt may be too fast to keep off the field, just worried about his weight. Wideman & Beckwith bring some much needed athleticism to the group. Think we'll see those guys early on ST & in the redzone. Beyond that, who will step up between Johnson, Gibbs, Means & Tillman? Gibbs is the favorite but there are lots of unknowns beyond that.

He'll be an instant upgrade at the KR position. Unsure if he'll take the reigns as our PR. Imagine that will be an interesting battle going into fall camp.

Of the guys already here and the newbies, which ones run the best routes. Knowing which ones know what and how to run a route will be the guys who set themselves apart for me. Give me the guy who runs a proper route and makes a routine catch. After every game you can find these guys somewhere in the "box score"with 4-6 or more catches. But what you see in the replays are usually the one or two catches made by a guy who has run a suspect route and made a spectacular catch. Give me the guy who does his job from the snap of the ball til the end of the play.

Joe Burrow had some pretty good receivers at LSU. I was amazed at how they could give him a target when he was scrambling. There were times I thought “he’s just gonna throw it away rather than take the sack”. And bingo- a big play. A lot of that was burrow, but also a lot of good receiver coaching to. What to do once your route breaks down. I sure hope our new quarterbacks have that kind of moxie. Granted- Burrow was a 5 star that played like an 8 star.

It's how well he recovers from that injury that is of concern.

Let’s all be honest with ourselves..... doesn’t matter who the receivers are if JG is throwing....... there I said it.

Agreed. Definitely think he can and will contribute in the return game. However, one has to believe he wouldn't have chosen to transfer if he didn't feel like he had a legitimate shot at real playing time at WR. Who better to come to than your former recruiter (Tee). Whether he can lock down a spot in the rotation is yet to be seen obviously. Athletic ability is there, lets hope we can find a way to get him the ball outside of just return game.
