PizzaGate

Why so skeptical?

Have you looked at all of the photos from Jimmy Comet's instagram?

I have a hard time taking anything seriously from some random twitter account piloted by a true genius that can't even spell pedophile.

Spelling huh?

As a parent it disturbs me that alleged pedophiles get any benefit of the doubt.

There is a ton of circumstantial evidence in this dude's instagram. He was flaunting it.

Comet Pizza Gunman is an Actor, that's pretty much all you need to know. #PizzaGate #FakeNews #Pedofiles

This thing has traveled squarely into the land of the bizarre and beyond. Something unprecedented is happening with pizzagate. I fear this is leading to a scary place, in ways that are not obvious at the moment.

What I'm afraid of, is the "fake news" propaganda will eventually lead to changes in the freedom of the press, and the hate speech trolls on the internet will eventually lead to changes in the freedom of the speech. I can see the press happening first though since they're pushing #fakenews. Maybe I'm just wearing a tinfoil hat though. Dunno.

that's what they're already doing for the next election. the social powers will do their best to judge what's "news" and what isn't. much of the fake news online was really satire

Now that would be awesome. I bet it would be darn near impossible to get down there, and I'm willing to bet they've got high-tech security devices to alert them if anyone gets close.

It's too bad more people don't look at this with an open eye. Alefantis has said that they don't have a basement at Comet Pizza, but older interviews have him quoted as saying they use only organic tomatoes for their sauce and they store the tomatoes in the basement.

The tools of democracy have now been weaponized by those who despise it.

I'm not very confident in the future of liberal democracy.

I keep going back to a thought experiment I give people when we have this discussion. So, two things:

1. The great Tulsa race riot from the early twentieth-century. America survived that. The race riots of the 60s, we survived too. Both far worse than some police shootings today. Now, inject Twitter, Facebook, social media, and fake news into Tulsa and the 60s. What do you get?

2. The Great Depression was one of the darkest times in American history. It was very rough, but we came out even stronger (granted, WWII didn't hurt that). Now, what do you get if you throw Twitter, Facebook, 4chan and other online forums, and other social media into that event?

Liberal democracies will be under far more strain than they have been at any other point in history. I'm not confident they survive. The tools that previously allowed them to flourish are now being used against them, by foreign and domestic enemies alike. I think it's very possible we're staring at an authoritarian future.

Facebook is why liberal democracy will fail? Seriously?

Censorship is not the answer. The answer is for people that are sane not to propagate nonsense like this while smirking at the fact that they are roiling their political opponents, without regard for the fact that by doing so they legitimize the wacky ideas of the extreme.
