Pig Howard dismissed from team...

I'm not an advocate for pot or any illegal drug use, but if he's in chronic (yeah, I used that word) pain and/or having migraines all the time due to his concussion, then if smoking weed actually is the only thing that takes that pain away, isn't that helping his well being?

Sure. And if he needs thc to alleviate pain he has options.

Is he in unremitting pain or are you speculating?

It's painful to hear that an excellent player and contributor to the team has chosen a path to destruction. He may still get to the NFL but he has likely cost himself millions $$. If he doesn't get to the big leagues, he has cut short an experience of a lifetime and hurt the experience of the rest of the team.

Fact is smoking weed is against team and university policy. Whether or not you think it should or shouldn't be, doesn't matter. It is. And Pig knew that. If he had a legit reason, then he decided that reason was better than staying on the team. if he was my son, I would be understanding while explaining to him his choice unfortunately had repercussions

I know him personally. You don't. Talk to me when you read my post on page 5 and stop believing that everything in the world is hunky dorry. Dude has more on his plate than just football. I'm sorry your world views are so narrow that you can't even begin to comprehend that.

If that's the case he shouldn't be playing football in the first place.

Having a lot of personal drama isn't an excuse for violating team rules. Players have a hell of a support mechanism available to them.

Congrats on your relationship with Alton. I hope you are a positive inflence on him.

1. I made no mention of how full his plate is.
2. I made no mention of my world view.
3. I made no mention of my belief in the world hunkiness.
4. I specifically mentioned i believe in Alton's future potential in the NFL.

If you are his buddy, it is wise to counsel him to stop using because the nfl tests for it too. If he has no plans for a pro career, then i hope he works for someone who understands his choice to toke.

Are you this calm and reasonable all the time, Mr Balla?

But you agree that he has been given numerous chances and in the end made the wrong choice based on team policy, correct?

I'm not saying it's an excuse. I'm just trying to bring some insight to the people who want to reel at him and call him names and insults because he did something that all of the Priests and saints on this board say they would never do. Your life may be nice, but it's not the life Pig has. Please stop looking for reasons to blame him for alleviating his problems in the best way he knows how. This stuff happens a lot but it's personal so they don't want it in the public eye. Similar thing happened to Eric Gordon.

Butch gave this kid way more chances that he deserved....

I liked Pig's game and wish we had him on the field! He had chances to change his behavior and chose not to do so.... I'm not his judge, so I won't act as such. He knew the consequences and chose what he found more important/enjoyable.

Those who are insulting Alton and are calling him names are in the wrong.

Everything else you posted is an excuse, though.

As his friend you should have counseled him in better ways.

I apologize for getting heated when I see hundreds of people attack a friend of mine because they think they know how to fix him. People can't be fixed. And I would be there for him, but I'm in another city now and he is very quiet and closed off. He doesn't talk about his problems. Now you are defending yourself by trying to act like I'm crazy for getting up in arms when a group of 40 year olds try to villainize a friend of mine without knowing anything about him. I'm done with this website. I apologize for trying to bring what info and personal experiences I have seen, but you guys don't want the info, you just want to be right. Enjoy your speculation. It's really helping

Pig hasn't been with the team for awhile now. This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. Best of luck to him in his future endeavors, whatever they may be.

You always seem to combine good info with classy posts. :hi:

If he has some MH issues going on as was suggested (more than pot), I hope UT can get him some effective treatment. I hate to see a life go sideways so young.

Yup. It's my fault. Congratulations. Besides the fact that we're not incredibly close, he doesn't like to talk about himself. Lol, don't you see that you're literally looking for someone to blame? Good luck mouth breathers. I see now why insiders never post here (btw not calling myself an insider)

Only one to blame is Alton and I hope for his sake he conquers his demons.

Pig has to be smart enough to stop or try and get help. I don't care what he has gone through, there are plenty of people who have gotten depressed/hurt and NOT turned to drugs as a crutch to lean on. If I saw a friend of mine struggling for a long time, I would reach out and help him. Or find someone to help him. I wouldn't run to a message board, talk about him, and then wonder why everyone is disappointed at him for getting kick off. Pig got some good years at UT. Hopefully he finished/can finish his degree soon, and maybe even have a pro career if he is able to.
