Phillips and Tuttle say “all weren’t bought in”

In this time of instant gratification and self before anything or anyone else I have no idea how you fix this. It’s becoming clear it’s a thing on this roster to “I’m gonna take care of me and get mine”. Team concept shot. The only fix to this is to collectively get them, through pride in their team... excell, rather be dead than lose. I don’t envy CJP one bit he’s got a mountain to move.

This is the reason why as much as I hate team like Alabama and the New England Patriots, I have a deep respect for the culture they have created. Somehow, the Patriots have made it so they can get 53 guys who want to win more than anything, knowing that they’re gonna make a very good living in the meantime, but maybe just not as good as somewhere crappy.

Same is true with Bama. Saban has incredible talent that all want to come and win first rather than play earlier on a crappy team.

After the crap show coaching seach that ended with a guy with 0 experience as a coach, can't blame any player for being skeptical. It's a shame none of the staff was able to make them believe or apparently have fun or any pride in themselves or the program. A huge part of coaching is winning the locker room. It's tough when that is impossible for the staff.
I would ask you to reconcile your comments with this:
Recruits whether they sign here or not say they love Coach Pruitt and staff.

I think a lot of those kids have an issue with authority

I know a lot of folks believe these guys are essentially employees and should be honored to play for UT but they are also still immature young men. They may not have ‘bought in’ but it’s possible the coach was a crappy salesman. CJP needed to find a way to motivate his players and connect with them. Surprisingly, unloading on them in every presser wasn’t the answer.....

Look at Neb and Frost. He turned around a train wreck to win 4 out of the last 5. His guys clearly ‘bought in.’ I’m afraid CJP has never had to make something out of nothing. He’s excelled with excellent players at strong programs while we’re the damn Bad News Bears of football. I hope he finds his way but, if not, we’re primed for another messy break-up.

Seems like a lot of staffs recognize Saban has a system and it works, but few if any seem to want to study it or emulate it. In recruiting, Saban does the same as the patriots staff they recruit specific players for a specific purpose not just any 4-5 star. Also they seem to go the extra mile and investigate the players character, his heart. Perhaps everyone else’s recruiting is lazy in comparison. Then as the wins pile up, titles pile up, players desire to play for a winner...to have their name associated with Alabama and Saban. I think that’s his formula along with a development plan for every player. I admire him admittedly.

So you’re telling me that players don’t want to play for a bunch of coaches who have been on some of the best staffs in the country and won multiple titles, and are skeptical because one of them hasn’t been a head coach before?

That’s a stupid way of thinking if that’s the case.

I have a few theories:
1. They just want to get their degree and move on
2. They realize they have no chance of playing time if they transfer
3. The women here are easy on the eyes.
4. Cafeteria food is amazing.
One more.. Pruitt is rebuilding. When Tennessee finally gets where we all want it to go, they really can't claim being a part of the rebuilding. They are branded as Butch's boys.. You know, the guy in Crimson smoking a cigar in the vistors locker room of Neyland stadium.. that guy.

And that’s the thing that gets me, they would rather have a coach who pretty much spit in thier collective faces by posting as many pictures as he could of him smoking that cigar, than a coach who is trying to make them better then idk what to say other than send them packing

We saw players quit last season and they quit again this season too.

I agree we need to cancel their schollies and give those lazy losers the boot.

Pruitt probably would love to kick all of those self-centered guys out too.

Pruitt has a serious problem that keeps him from doing that...NUMBERS.

No matter what, Pruitt simply MUST have the numbers of players it takes to coach and field a team.

We're only allowed to recruit and sign 25 players per year so even if Pruitt wants to get rid of 60 players and replace them he simply can NOT do that because he wouldn't have enough players to practice on a O scout team and a D scout team and still have starters and 2nd stringers to practice and teach against those scout teams.

No matter how badly Pruitt and his staff may want to kick many kids off this team the numbers needed to simply practice correctly won't allow that to happen.

Reality is that it's going to take at least 3 years of good recruiting to get rid of 75 players we now have currently on our team.

Now we have to hope and pray that the cancerous attitudes of laziness and loser mentalities we have now will now spread into the new recruits that Pruitt and this staff bring in.

Our coaching staff is stuck because of the NUMBERS of players they simply MUST have to try to operate and rebuild our footVol Team.

VFL...GBO!!!

I agree 100%. Everyone talks about big number recruits, 4/5 star. Other schools are getting 2/3 and they would kick our butts. Not would, they have! I want to see coaches that can teach and coach those players up. Im tired of 4/5 star recruits that have serious attitude issues and dont care about the team.

The more I keep hearing about this, the more ticked off I get.

If true, they need to clean house. Start the guys who care and eliminate the rest before this attitude spreads. Let Nyles play. At least he wants to.

These are not what I'd hoped we'd be focused on, at this point, as I looked forward to the approach of this season.
Record wise, 5-7 is not terrible considering, but lots of other indicators are throwing all kinds of red flags, more than can be blamed on Butch culture.
