I just read he has UT at 25th, 4th in the East, 6th in the SEC and a Liberty bowl appearance. Steele has been pretty accurate regarding the Vols of late. I consider him highly credible after his 2005 prediction came to pass.

Steele predicted UT 1st in the East in 2006 and Florida 3rd. That being said, he's been more accurate than the other major annuals over the last 8 years.

:eek:hmy: well, i do think it's safe to say that with all of hte varying opinions from the pre season stuff that has come out thus far, our season outcome is about as certain as me winning the lottery.

4th in the east and a Liberty Bowl appearance?

If that happens, I'll chip in for Fulmer's buyout.

Fire Fulmer. Tennessee can't be subjected to this kind of preseason ridicule. Not with our history.

he's got Cal 5th in the pac-10 which would be tedford's lowest finish ever. yet i believe he has our WRs rated as the #1 unit in the country. and has dixon as the #2 qb in the pac-10. strange. bleh

Cal will finish 3rd-5th in the P10. Sorry man, but I guarantee it. 6-3 is the most likely conference record. Dixon is going to have a huge year, BTW.

I would be interested in reading his analysis, and why he placed the teams in this order. Can someone summarize it?

I assume he thinks UT's defense will be a weak spot and thats the reason for the low ranking.

He probably will point to 3 things:

1. +2 in close games
2. What he calls the Draft Day Hangover - we lost a lot
3. We weren't statistically as good in SEC play as the standings indicated

Steele uses A LOT of statistics for his predictions, with a little bit of eye-ball analysis.

He has GA ranked way too high, and Tennessee way too low.
Certainly, he can be as wrong as anyone else although he does have a solid track record. I've also picked UGA as 1st in the East to face LSU in the SECCG. I think it's going to be funny has hades, in a sick kind of way, when LSU goes 12-2 or 13-1 and fires Miles for losing to Richt in ATL again while UTK will probably be 8-5 or 9-4 and all the sheeple will be jumping off the Henley Street Bridge if Hamilton so much as gives CPF a cockeyed look.

i would be shocked about that.

who's #2? oregon? who are the 3 losses to? we still have by far the second best talent int he pac-10, a good qb, wrs, and a veteran oline. I'd be shocked if we were lower than #3.

This year's SEC East is so wide open, so I expect all of the preseason mags to be all over the place.

However, Steele is the best SEC prognosticator, at least for annuals, so I don't take this with a grain of salt.

The will be a logjam from 2-5 or 6. Arizona State is going to be very good, and Oregon might only lose 1 P10 game. Even though a team has "2nd best talent" doesn't mean they'll finish #2. Schedules, circumstances, etc, all play into things. LSU had #1 SEC talent and finished 4th in the conference.

no question, but our schedule isn't too bad. Oregon is the only bad road game. ASU doesn't have much of a home field advantage. both are relatively late in the season which i think benefits our young players.

LOL! Your welcome. Was going to type more, but just couldn't think of what to say at the time.

I just think that he is giving Georgia way too much credit. Their defense will not be what it was in the past, and will their running game ever be reserected? I still dont think that they have any really good receivers over there for Stafford to throw to. Georgia will have a solid defense, with a poor offense once again.

He has Tennessee way too low. Just look at our opponents this year:

California: The defense that the Vols shreaded last year lost alot of key players, and will be even worse.

Florida: Defense is gutted. Their defense is how they won the NC last year. We catch them early before the youngplayers have had a chance to face speedy competition.

Georgia: We are a more solid team than GA. A dissapointment if we don't win this one.

Alabama: They still dont have the talent to beat us. Good WR's, but defense will be very suspect.

South Carolina: No one on their offense scares me.

Arkansas: Their solid defense is gone. Will take a major step back this year. If our run defense improves this year, we win this one easily.

I just don't see why we don't stand a great chance of beating all these teams. I'm not saying we will beat them all, but I think that we win 4 or 5 out of those 6 games. The others that I didn't mention are gimmies. JMO

I think you all lose to ASU, Oregon, and USC. I think you beat UCLA on the road, because Tedford hasn't lost to Dorrell. Could go either way, though. Obviously 7-2 is possible, but not 8-1 and not 4-5.

actually tedford has lost to dorrell once at the rose bowl and is 2-2 against ucla with both losses on the road. 1 game we missed like 4 fieldgoals and lost by a couple of points, the other ayoob threw like 4 ints. My guess is we lose one of oregon and asu, and beat UCLA. Edit: ASU I do worry about because we have destroyed asu the past couple of years, hopefully our guys wont overlook the game.
