Peyton will consider coaching Vol QBs

He knows how to act in his role and work with others. When Adam Gase was his OC, Peyton easily could've trumped him if he wanted to. I don't think he'd have a problem being the QB teacher and let the OC and HC do their thing. In fact, I bet he'd prefer to have a smaller role and just focus on his part.

This +1000. Does anyone really think that he wasn't the OC when he was with the Colts???

If I'm Dave Hart, I am on the phone with Peyton today asking what we can do to make this happen when he is ready to retire. Wife needs a job? (check) Kids need to get into prep school (check) Need to find a mansion with security (check).

Am I the only one who thinks he wouldn't be a good coach? He's brilliant and we would get every 5* QB recruit we could ever want. However, he is an extreme perfectionist to the point of nausea and I'm afraid our QB's would want to hang themselves after a week of trying to please him.

Don't get me wrong, I love Peyton and he's one of my top 5 all time VOLS. But I just can't seem him being a good coach. I could be wrong though?

Sorry but you are the only one.

Some good things might happen if Peyton came to coach QBs in Knoxville, but the real question is:

What if Paul Bain wanted to coach QBs at Tennessee?

LOL...why do you think that? He's been coaching his offense in the NFL for years.

I still think Peyton would have to go on the road recruiting. There will be some QBs torn between playing for Peyton Manning or getting a fat check and new car from Urban Meyer!

Does he still have a house in Ooltewah? All I know is Tennessee would be guaranteed 5 star QB recruits every single year! I know it's mostly fantasy, but stranger things have happened.

And I doubt that would be an issue. I've read that he actually LIKES NFL training camp and doesn't mind staying in a dorm room for 3 weeks. If that didn't bother him, why would staying at a Holiday Inn Express?

The man isn't even 40 yet so why completely retire from being involved with a game that he loves. Also as a UT alumnus visiting campus ignites a lot of good memories, I'm sure it's the same for Peyton. And he will be able to have some control on how his college team performs, something every fan wants.

For me personally, I would rather spend my time with my wife and kids than someone else's kid.

I get what your saying and there is no guarantee that he would make a good coach.

BUT, he does bring something more to the table. Go look at interviews with coaches and players who have been around him. The general theme is he demands excellence at every level of any organization he is involved with. He makes every part of the organization better from the front office to the waterboy.

EDIT: I think he is more AD material but I suppose he could do whatever he wants.

Just because he's a great player does not automatically make him a great coach. Just saying that while nobody knows X's and O's better than him, being a good coach is more than that. He definitely would hold everyone accountable and be great at recruiting, just not so sure about all of the other attributes that make a great coach.

Whatever, just my humble opinion. :dance2:

Imagine the tough spot Butch would be in if Manning publicly stated that he'd like to coach QBs after retiring. He'd have a guy he had to hire and could never fire. He'd have a QB coach with more political clout than him. Butch better be the best leader in the nation if that happens.

It would be a natural fit although I it think would be a transition to OC if he wanted it. I believe he would do it for free because he loves Tennessee so much.

And cause I was a gazillionaire, and I liked doin it so much, I cut that grass for free.

Love Peyton, but the writing is on the wall that his NFL career is nearly over. He would be more of a QB "guru." I can't see him on the road recruiting like a QB coach would have to do.

I agree in the fact that I dont think he would have to.

This explains the pro style recruiting ;)

Is it possible he and Butch have been talking about his future

I'm not sure he would have to be on the road. I think those high school quarterbacks would be lined up outside Peyton's door to come to UT. Just a thought.
