Peyton not going to bat for Tee????

And to add another positive of Tee Martin:

If he does learn quickly and becomes an excellent HC, you have a HC for 10+ years because of how young he is, you just have to be willing to give him the money to retain him.

tee has a very low floor, and virtually no ceiling since he's so early on in his career. agree.

he would accomplish the short term goal of settling things down and giving the people something to rally around as "our guy". it'd be warm and fuzzy.

but you better be ready to fend off the naysayers the first time he doesn't call a time out in the right spot, or has a too many men on the field penalty....or f's up a 2 or 4 minute possession. or makes any number of questionalbe game day or personnel calls.

you hire tee martin, you're signing up for the long haul. if you're not willing to do that, then don't sign him up, you're just setting him up for failure ohterwise.

I hope you are right. Only other explanation would be that the Brown's GM job would be the quickest in for him, due to the Haslam connection. If he could turn around the Browns, he would be a legendary GM, just as he single-handedly made the Colts a SB contender.

And that’s fair, but I’m not sure that even Peyton has enough balls to take on a challenge like that. At least with the Colts he had Dungy and Polish. With the Brown he’d have... uh... oh! he’d have... Jim Brown? Never mind...

Couldn't have said it better myself. Personally, that is the type of hire I am ready for myself.

If we hadn't gone through the last decade, I might agree the fanbase is ready. But I really don't think overall the fanbase is nearly patient enough to let Tee grow into the role.

If he's hired, I hope I'm wrong, but I think the "VFL" thing will only buy him so much time. It's easy to say that we'll have to be patient but when we're sitting through a probably losing season his first year, things will change quickly.

Tee would never be considered for the job if he hadn't played here. People would want to burn Neyland to the ground if any other 2nd year coordinator who was looking at the Georgia Southern job was contacted.

Unless he just wants a get rich quick kind of deal, he'd be crazy to even take it at this point. It'd be a massive risk to his potential future career.

As for people comparing him to Morris, Morris is vastly more experienced and proven. As we currently stand due to the fiasco and incompetence from the AD, Morris is the floor you look at for the job.

I'll puke if they take Dave Doren.

i don't think so either. but if we're seriously going to go down the road of dorien, morris or guys of that ilk, why not give it to tee?
I have to agree. I do think Tee would be an excellent recruiter here. That could cover up for a lot of mistakes with a good staff around him.

Some people just can't get it through their heads that Tee is not ready to be a HC...They want this feel good story about bringing their hero home to a celebration and parade when in reality that feel good story will become an absolute nightmare and you'll be yelling for his head in no time...then he'll get fired and his Head coaching career will be ruined....but as long as you feel happy for about 10 minutes then that's ok right?...Some of our fanbase is so freaking stupid sometimes...Heck some of you want Steele to come back as HC, That guy is an outstanding DC but a horrible HC with a 9-39 record yet you guys want him to take over Tennessee football?!?...Damn

Ask Jamie Nautright about his balls.

i'll be honest, all of what i posted is really the only reason i'd be against hiring him right now. i think it would be a set up for failure.

i think after a couple/three years of more of the same on the field, we'd turn on him, and it could wind up being a situation where we're firing another guy that has a street named after him outside the stadium.

i feel like a letter would have to be sent to all the fans, alumni, season ticket holders etc...like they do for your kids base ball league....

"please do not boo Tee, he's young and still learning. we know this is a work in progress, and it will make the learning environment much better if he is allowed to do it w/out increasing pressure and negativity from the fans at the stadium, on local radio callin shows, message boards and other social media. ":)

we aren't that patient, not even for Tee Martin....support early would be key, and he absolutely has to have the resources to go get the absolute best staff. like enough money to go get Sam Pittman away from GA, or Steele away from auburn, or Eddie Gran from KY ...retain Gillespie, or go get Jay Grahm from FSU....etc....you get the idea.

read some more, i think most of us are having a very realistic conversation about Tee, what his limiations are, and what it would take to make that work.

no one has said it's "plug and play" or turn key.

If you’re talking about Chad Morris, the only thing that makes me nervous is his minimal years in the college game(looks like he’s been around for 7 years?) and It doesn’t seem like he’s done much with his record at SMU. I mean I know Gus Malzahn came from high school but he was at least pretty good at arky state

I see your point. A proper supporting cast is key here, and without it Tee would not be able to succeed. I think the main hurdle will be getting from 8-4 to SEC East champion. 8-4 can be achieved relatively easy, and I think would keep most of the fanbase quiet until year 4-5 (it worked for Butch).

I don't see how the fans would be able to demand instant wins at this point though (10+ wins per year). This situation has become such a farce at this point. Getting any known commodity seems nearly impossible.

IDK really. I would hate to see Tee get boo'd or become some figure that Tennessee fans see as a failure. But I think he is our best REALISTIC shot at redemption.

i think it's important that the further we get away from Sunday, and further down our list, that we start looking for paths to success for some of these candidates we're going to be considering.

there's not a single candidate left that doesn't have serious roadblocks. but if all we're going to do is hash out the roadblocks, it's going to be difficult to find a coach that could actually be succesful here.

the big names are out. there is no home run left.

so my advice, as you've sort of done here, you can acknowledge the road block...but are there any paths to success for this guy, and if so, what are they?

not to you specifically...just rhetorical at this point.

we've lost 3 of the last 5, 4 of the last 6 to Vandy. i'm not sure 8-4 is realtively easy anymore, even relatively speaking.

i'm not against a tee martin hire. but as i've stated, it comes with certain stipulations for us as fans to just accept. and that hire should be made with a complete understanding of what resources should be allocated to give him the best possible chance to succeed, as early as he is able to.

Because National Championship rings are a lot nicer than Citrus Bowl rings.

Seriously, if Peyton Manning is ****ting on Tee Martin, it's the pettiest thing I've ever heard of. I hope that isn't the case.

Ya that’s it. Peyton, an 18 year NFL vet with 2 SUPERBOWL RINGS, 5 MVP awards, and multiple NFL records is upset about Tee Martins National Championship ring and WR coaching career. Please.....where do people get this $hit.

Yeah that’s fair, I honestly don’t know much about Morris other than what he did at Clemson and his resume.

I'm wondering that myself. If there's any proof that Peyton is the one standing in the way someone needs to produce it. Otherwise this bs needs to stop.

It's far from actual proof, but Reed Carringer on Twitter mentioned multiple times there is heat between Manning and Martin. Carringer added that the heat was from Manning and that Manning has turned down opportunities in the past to clear the air with Martin. When asked directly about "why?" the heat Carringer would only say "that's a question only Peyton can answer."

Could have sworn half this board revoked Tee’s VFL card when he turned down Butch to be WR coach.

I would love for Tee to come here and be successful. There are a few more guys to get turned down by first though.
