Peterman Transferring?

If comparing the effectiveness of Dobbs v Peterman behind a broken offensive line it's no comparison. Dobbs will be better. However, if forced into action behind an intact OL and with several skill position weapons, I have little doubt that Peterman would be a functional backup QB.
How soon we forget last year's debacle with NP behind a good OL in the Swamp against the Gators. Worley had to come in and keep the game from being a rout.

That was two years ago, he was a freshman in his first game against one of the best defenses around, the entire team was adjusting to a new system, and NP shouldn't have been on the field. Starting NP at the Swamp was probably CBJ's worst decision so far as TN's coach. NP was not ready and that was a horrible situation to put him in. Fail by the coaches.

Also compare the 117 v 119 skill positions. Hurd and Kamara v Lane and Rajion. 119 might be the deepest Wide Receiver U has ever been at WO. NP isn't enough of a running threat to function effectively without the other weapons.

NP alone isn't a game changer. He's capable of serving as a backup QB. Andy Kelly won a lot of games. They have similar skills.

Peterman as a number two QB isn't a bad scenario. Coaches want him right now and they know what he's capable of far more than any fan ever will.

It's sad that many fans want to take shots at a kid because he didn't perform well in a meaningless game. I mean we as fans sometimes act as if the outcome of a game is going to somehow effect our lives.

you say a game on Saturday dont affect the way I work on Monday?.. you sir need to give up your Guru card.

each loss effects me for 3 or 4 days no matter what..call me out if you want.

If we win Monday and Tuesday are great, then I get worried.

If you never get worried WTF
or HTF did you get your guru badge?

Man I hope you forgot to use blue font here. Reading this drivel effects me worse than a loss would.

If you let something you have ZERO involvement in bother you that deeply, you sir need professional help.

He's done pretty much everything asked of him in three years...except play well. When we recall Joey Matthews I don't hear hate or anything similarly harsh...he was just a disaster...in his first stab at starter. He was immediately replaced by Suggs then Clausen. This was behind a traditional great Vols OL line so the fact that he never got another shot was probably more justified, but if there had been a VN there would be his apologists. Our human nature is to root for redemption and comeback stories...sometimes it's not warranted. I fall in the line of people that saw enough. If he doesn't transfer and keeps up the hard work, I won't resent his presence on the team...I just honestly don't think he helps the team.
Your memory is suffering.
Joey was injured in his first or 2nd start.
He never played anywhere as bad as Peterman and had just as bad an O line. you can probably pull up some highlights and watch then TD pass where he was getting mauled. Won his first game against a very talented Southern Miss defense as I recall.

To give you an idea on coaching ineptitude. Toby Champion was getting 1st team reps at center while Scott Wells (yes that Scott Wells) was searching for a position.

Jumbo Fisher wanted Joey to sign at Auburn, but he stayed loyal. He'd have been better to get away from you nut jobs.

I think it's more that the internet forums weren't as popular when Joey Matthews was around. It's the forums that have exploded in the past couple of years that have given way to so many critics. (See Volnation)

I'm sorry to disagree with you, but Petetman as a number two QB is a very bad scenario and it's in large part why the staff has taken the commitments of 3 qbs this year. Clearly the coaches know this by the actions they've taken as far as playing Dobbs (and not Nathan) and bringing in Jennings, Dormady and Jones.

Btw, IMHO, it's not Nathan's skillset that is the problem....he has plenty of physical ability. It's his emotional that keeps him from being a division 1 qb. I think he's a more physically gifted qb than Andy Kelly was....however, Kelly was miles ahead of Nathan on Saturdays.

Joey sorry things didn't work out for you.

I don't get three. I guess you aren't going to tell Jones no thanks, even with the other two already EEs. I wouldn't be surprised to see them try to convert Jennings to a different position.

I do think that it's a difficult offense to learn. Peterman is up to speed. If Dobbs were to be injured early on, I'd hope that Peterman is on the roster. Kids barely out of high school running a complex offense isn't going to end well.

Agree with everything you wrote, although I do believe Jennings gets every chance to be at qb before looking at him elsewhere. However, Peterman has already shown that despite his physical talent and grasp of the offense, he just can't handle being behind center on gamedays. They've clearly moved on from him imo.

Peterman has had a successful career at UT.

He got a degree and provided a warm body as a back up QB.

That being said, pretending he hasn't had a fair shot to earn the starting job is not accurate at all.

Pretending he will manage to be a successful QB in the SEC despite showing no evidence of the ability to do so in three seasons now, well, that is just unrealistic vollyanna group think to make people feel like they are better fans than the ones who have slammed him.

No ill will towards the guy, but he just isn't a starter level QB in the SEC.

Great kid, credit to the program, just not D1 material at the end of the day. I'd love to see him as a grad assistant. Wish him nothing but the best.

I don't think that not winning the starting job means that you can't be a great backup QB. Pat Ryan made a career out of being a backup... for TN and the Jets.

No doubt he knows the offense...it's scary what he does with that knowledge.

It'd be cool if he were to transfer to UTC, and Peterman and Bowles are able to make a good FCS QB-WR tandem.

I live in Chattanooga and would love to see both here. Would hope Peterman could get a NC ring with UTC.

I suppose I just have perspective on what is truly important in life. I'm as excited as anybody when we win and just as upset when we lose. What I don't do is let it effect other aspects of my life. If you do then I feel sorry for you.

Didn't Butch already confirm Peterman is staying?

They've said he's enrolled in grad school and still a part of the program. However, Dormady now has his number and the question is in what capacity is he now a part of the program imo.

First of all, even though he has been at U.T. for 3 seasons, he has only played in games in 2 seasons. The other was a redshirt year.

Secondly, he has only thrown 43 passes in his career, which most qb's do in one game. He has completed 20 of them, and about all of his passes have been against tough competition behind the worst o-line that we have ever seen here. When he has played against easier competition, he just gets to hand it off to run clock. I am not ready to give up on him.

This season Peterman was 10 of 20 with no interceptions. 13 of his 20 passes were against Georgia and Alabama. He completed 6 of 13 against them, and 4 of 7 against the other teams that he played.

With all due respect though, I think bringing in 3 qbs this class and giving Dormady his #12 signals that the coaches have.

Maybe, maybe not. Both Dobbs and Peterman just have 2 years left. We have 2 empty classes behind them. No sophomore and no redshirt freshman for 2015.

In a perfect world, we would have one qb with 3 years eligibility remaining, and one with 4 behind those two. I think if we had that luxury, then we would just take one.

Numbers are not exclusive anymore. You just can't have two with the same number participating in the game at the same time.
