Perine Quote

Until we hold up our end of the deal, from Florida's perspective, I can see why they say it's not a rivalry. I certainly didn't consider Vanderbilt or Kentucky rivals for 20 of the 30 years we were curb stomping them every year, but I'm sure from their side the hatred of us was real and intense. We can't keep clinging to a golden bygone era of dominance. We need to even out these series, and not just UF, we have several current losing streaks to end. Hopefully we end a few this year. Go Vols!!

I have never thought of the game as a "rivalry" and said many times why.

At one time, the two teams were very good and the game had lots of significance. So, it was built up to be a rivalry. The same way the Patriots-Colts had significance and was made to be a rivalry.

But, Indianapolis-New England is not a rivalry and neither is Florida-Tennessee

That wasn’t even close to Perine’s best quote. This one is a beauty:

Lamical Perine asked about telling Nick Saban “no” when Alabama pushed late and hard to flip his commitment.

Reporter: Nobody says no to Nick Saban.

Perine: “Lamical Perine did.”

Florida can only have so many rivals, it’s really getting ridiculous.

FSU and Georgia are the obvious ones. Miami was right there with FSU for decades, and with UF playing them this year, the fan and player rival intensity in the lead-up to that opening game has been about as intense and vicious as I can remember.

The LSU rivalry has become very intense with the whole hurricane thing, the battle to be “DBU,” and the fact that UF-LSU games always seem to be super intense and close has made that game a serious rivalry.

That’s 4 teams who consider UF serious rivals. Then there’s Tennessee. That makes 5 teams. Hell Kentucky thinks we’re their rival now since they finally beat us after 3 decades. Auburn was way more of a rival than LSU in the 80s and 90s, Florida plays them this year.

You can’t have 7 rivalry games. Personally, having grown up in the 90’s, I do consider UT a rivalry game.

FSU and Georgia are 1 and 1)a
Miami is 3, LSU and UT tied for 4th/5th.

"Tennessee didn't consider it a rivalry either... before Spurrier showed up. The silly Gators were another doormat sec team, PERIOD! It's cyclical. Hopefully, we get back to the way it should be."

Excellent point, allvols4life.

You sure about that?

UF won both games against UT in the 80s, went 2-2 in the four games played in the 70s, and we won the only game against each other in the 60s.

But you guys totally owned us from 1916-1955.

If you play a team yearly you could consider it a rivalry. Maybe not a serious rival, but a rival nonetheless.
