Is giving a masterclass in how not to run a coaching search. It’s pretty clear they had no plan after firing Franklin. I guess they just assumed people would be lining up and begging for the job. They’re at the point where they may be forced to remove the interim tag from Terry Smith and give him the job on a full time basis.
Yep. I think they assumed they would get Cignetti and had no plan B when he re-signed with Indiana.

Yes, he turned them down.

Honestly I never thought he was actually take it. Why? He's at his alma mater, he is going to get a great pay bump, he's loved there, and flirting with winning the B12/making the playoffs every few years is all he has to do at BYU.

Unless a coach doesn't care about anything but getting a pay day (or I guess having a big ego), I don't see why any sane coach would want to go to a place with THAT history and just let go a guy who had a ton of 10 win seasons and was a drive away from playing for a National Championship. And I say that as someone who thinks Franklin is a douche nozzle.

This is exactly what happened.

Sitake was supposedly way down their list so the fact they got that far and still got turned down is really really bad. Honestly, they should’ve gone after Chesney from JMU harder. He’s from Pennsylvania and word is he really wanted the job. But PSU thought they were stealing Sitake so they let UCLA swoop in and grab Chesney. They’re screwed.

I agree, now that he’s getting a pay bump. Before he was making $3 million a year. Penn State was reportedly offering $11 million a year. BYU is reportedly bumping him up to $9 million a year.

11 million for Sitake is insane. That’s as desperate as it gets. He’s a good coach but nowhere close to deserving of 11 million.

I thought the same thing. When Chesney went to UCLA, surely that was a clear indication PSU wasn't even interested in him but should have been.

Also, this is easier to say in hindsight now that he's staying at BYU but Sitake was obviously playing PSU for a raise. He's an LDS guy and BYU alum who has spent most of his adult life in Utah. Had a way below market salary (probably, BYU is private so we don't know for sure). There is no way in hell he was going across the country to coach at a program who just fired the coach that had them in a CFP semifinal last year and was #2 at one point this season.

I don't know any Penn state fans, but I am unable to not see on Facebook that the fans are ready to be happy with the interim, Terry Smith.

Next time you're tempted to type here "they wouldn't fire him unless [something]" don't type it. It's a Charlie Foxtrot every time.

On the plus side, I'd never heard of Crumbl cookies, and so being the punchline of a joke has really given them a ton of publicity. I am out of touch with the cookie industry.
