Yep. I think they assumed they would get Cignetti and had no plan B when he re-signed with Indiana. Is giving a masterclass in how not to run a coaching search. It’s pretty clear they had no plan after firing Franklin. I guess they just assumed people would be lining up and begging for the job. They’re at the point where they may be forced to remove the interim tag from Terry Smith and give him the job on a full time basis.
Yes, he turned them down.
This is exactly what happened.Yep. I think they assumed they would get Cignetti and had no plan B when he re-signed with Indiana.
I agree, now that he’s getting a pay bump. Before he was making $3 million a year. Penn State was reportedly offering $11 million a year. BYU is reportedly bumping him up to $9 million a year.Honestly I never thought he was actually take it. Why? He's at his alma mater, he is going to get a great pay bump, he's loved there, and flirting with winning the B12/making the playoffs every few years is all he has to do at BYU.
Unless a coach doesn't care about anything but getting a pay day (or I guess having a big ego), I don't see why any sane coach would want to go to a place with THAT history and just let go a guy who had a ton of 10 win seasons and was a drive away from playing for a National Championship. And I say that as someone who thinks Franklin is a douche nozzle.
11 million for Sitake is insane. That’s as desperate as it gets. He’s a good coach but nowhere close to deserving of 11 million.I agree, now that he’s getting a pay bump. I thought the same thing. When Chesney went to UCLA, surely that was a clear indication PSU wasn't even interested in him but should have been. This is exactly what happened.
Sitake was supposedly way down their list so the fact they got that far and still got turned down is really really bad. Honestly, they should’ve gone after Chesney from JMU harder. He’s from Pennsylvania and word is he really wanted the job. But PSU thought they were stealing Sitake so they let UCLA swoop in and grab Chesney. They’re screwed.
They went back in archives and copied some of Vols best efforts in coaching hires in the 2010 decade. Is giving a masterclass in how not to run a coaching search.
