Penn State Sanctions- recruits/transfers

The problem with bowl bans or fines is the loss is always pssed on to the student. I would be in favor of some type of fine that would directly impact athletics and used the money for student scholarships with an agreement in place to not raise tuition for 5 years.

NCAA can't do that. They can, however, cripple the program with bowl bans and scholarship reductions, while allowing all student athletes that want it, a free transfer to wherever to play immediately.

Im aware of that but as I understand the situation the NCAA accepted self imposed sanctions. I see no issue with the NCAA agreeing with the University.

The university would have to implement those type programs though, they can't be forced. The NCAA agreeing is immaterial if the university doesn't do it.

Where are you getting that? Here's why I ask:

@schadjoe: Thee sanctions were not self-imposed or negotiated. This is Emmert taking a stand he felt he had to due to horrors in Freeh Report.

If it were not for whistle blowers, the proper authorities at PSU would have taken this to their graves. They had ZERO intentions to do the right thing until they were exposed. Only then did they attempt to say and do the right things.

And well said.

They aren't getting the death penalty. That much has already been reported by ESPN, among others.

Again, you don't think PSU has learned its lesson from all this, and has enough egg in its face to deal with for years, without the clowns at the NCAA getting involved??

Eric, based on this logic we should also let the idiot go in Colorado as he has thoroughly been embarrassed and learned his lesson. What PSU allowed to happen is horrific, and to just let them move on because they've now learned their lesson is very short sighted. I've said before that I'm not in favor of the death penalties, but the penalties should be severe enough to cripple the program for a few years. If one of the young men violated was your son I would think you would see things differently.

Again, they have payed enough penalties, and Sandusky is gone for good. When do they get to start the healing process, after the NCAA gets a hold of them?? It's dumb the NCAA is even touching this. Hell, they are removing JP's statue, so it's not like they aren't trying to get rid of what might remind people of this mess.

So USC shouldn't have gotten any punishment since Reggie Bush was gone, right? After all it wasn't any other players fault.

To say this is not a football matter is about as dumb as you can get. They covered up kids getting raped so they could keep their reputation and compete in the big 10. Had this come out when it should had, recruiting would've been awful. Instead, they chose to harbor a child molester that continued to come on campus so their football program wouldn't suffer. It's now time for the football program to suffer and allow each player to go wherever he wants .

If this had happened before now and the death penalty had been imposed on the school involved then I bet PSU would've handed Sandusky over to the proper authorities knowing what the consequences would be. That is why a precedent should and will be set tomorrow. Collateral damage is the unfortunate byproduct but justified nonetheless. Rape children and you are in the same zip code and you may get punished.

Great point! It not only is just punishment but it prevents future cover ups in the future. Well stated.

ESPN is reporting (speculating) no death penalty but rather multi-year bowl bans and schollie losses.

I read one Penn staters comment concerning the JoePa statue - He said it should have been left where it was, but simply turned around. Indicative of JoePa turning his back on the children.

Perfectly stated and impossible to disagree with. :good!:
