The team played better when Lofton was out at one stretch. They were quicker, elevated their game, he came back in and 18-0 run.I can't explain it.Does the whole team center around Chris Lofton.I too support coach Pearl but to lay the blame on the fans for the loss is lame.anyone listening?
There is definitely a sound of disgust in his voice and he was actually at a loss for words at one point talking about how a lot of people would probably blame the loss on him for the technical. He then went on to complain about the lack of the jump ball call at the end. After that, he talked about being amazed that Lofton doesn't get any calls when driving to the basket. He was in awe that Lofton did not get one free throw tonight.
I didn't hear the first part of the show but I guess I am a tad surprised in that it seems like Pearl is making excuses. Has he talked about us blowing a 14 point lead and not getting back on defense?
Now he is saying that if more Tennessee fans would have shown up tonight we might could have pulled it out.
I am not knocking Pearl, I am his biggest fan, but it just doesn't sound like him.

The lack of support for our basketball team is going to enable another program to lure him away.
Sure, we pile in 20,000 into TBA occasionally, and sure, our attendance has gone up since he arrived. However, the support for our basketball program is not the same. Gotten better, but still not good enough. With as much excitment and energy as he has brought to this University and this program, our fans should be supporting him more. There should not be a conference home game that was not sold out...
I think THCBM was on to something. I don't think Pearl was actually talking to UT fans that live 3 1/2 hrs plus away from Auburn. I think he might have been talking to fans that live near Auburn or close to it, I'm mean Tennessee fans are everywhere(just like other big time programs) and he wants them to come to those games.:dunno:Yeah, I agree to a certain extent. There are a lot of Vol fans in Atlanta...thats only 1 1/2 hours from Auburn. But even then, its not an easy thing at all on a wednesday night, especially if you have kids.
IMO, I disagree, with all the actions going on in Knoxville(renovations to TBA, practice facility being built)Pearl knows he is sitting on a Gold Mine AND he knows he is going to have to drill for that Gold....which might take a little while to get it.The minute a great Big Ten or ACC job comes open..with a big fat paycheck from a school that supports bball better than UT and he would have to consider it. Although our attendance has gone up, it should still be much higher than it is.
 , I agree! For example, Last year Florida was up and down in Conference play but as the season closed they hit their stride. Tennessee will get better as the year goes...sometimes it might be hard to see but by SEC Tourny time CBP will have this team playing at a high leveli think there is more support for the bball team now than there has been in the past 10 years. BP has done wonders for the program.
we all knew that this year might not be as "magical" as last, and BP knows it too. he set the bar pretty high last season, hard to live up to said expectation with as young as we are right now.
still, we've won some games i didn't think we would, and we've lost some games i thought we'd win.
to be perfectly honest, we're about where i though we'd be. and it aint over yet.
they'll continue the roller coaster ride....and i can't not see them in the tourney this year. unless they tank in conf. play, which i also don't see happening.
there are still 2 games against KY, 2 against FL, Bama, LSU etc....that i have to think they are looking at like opportunities.
they'll figure it out....and i think most would agree the best years are yet to come.
I can't answer that, I am just referring to Pearl's post game as per the title of this thread. Why is it evertime a coach says something about the officials he is making excuses?
No but it's getting to be a common theme. You have to play with what you are dealt. I agree the refs sucked but that's not why we lost the game. It shouldn't have come down to that.Sometimes the refs just plain suck. Sometimes mistakes are made and those should be talked about, not just swept under the rug for everyone to ignore.
Did I ever say it wasn't honest? I mentioned that I didn't hear the first part of the show. All I heard was him complaining about the calls and how he was disappointed in the fan turnout. Nothing wrong with that, it was just a different tone than I am used to from Pearl.Pearl said we played bad, he questioned his own decisions and then he went on to question bad calls. To me that's not making excuses, it's being 100% honest about the situation

I agree that the arena is too big. I like what they have done with the students on the one end by the Tennessee bench though. In fairness, not many schools would be able to sell out a 20,000 seat arena. Plus, interms of support, you still have the issue of the student section being essentially in the nosebleed section and the big grandfathered in donors with front row seats.
