If Michigan goes looking for a new coach and everyone seems to think they will, do they target Pearl?

I'd say Michigan will definitely be shopping for a coach at the end of the season.

Bruce is an attractive candidate for any big job opening, so I'm sure they'll take a look at him...I don't see that opening as a threat, though.

Imagine Pearl painting himself in Blue and Maize supporting Carr and the football team.... On the flip side, I think once was too many ....

Michigan will be looking and I'm sure Bruce is on thiers and everyone elses list. With that said I also don't think he'll be going anywhere in the next 5 years.

why is that?

Michigan would be able to match whatever offer Tennessee brings up. Michigan is a sleeping giant. The Detroit pipeline, talent in Ohio, Indiana, and Chicago. He has a better chance of competing for a Big Ten title at Michigan than he would and SEC title here at Tennessee. Florida is rolling. Kentucky is just one coaching change away from being good again, and you always have to concern yourself with at least one team in the West having a good run (LSU, Miss St, or Bama).

I agree it would be a latteral move, but his chances are better at winning conference titles up there then down here...

To put it simply - I just disagree. I have to believe that winning in any conference is equally as difficult as the others. Most conferences tend to be geographically co-located so they recruit against one another and their current recruiting success is probably most closely tied to their recent past (save a few storied programs).

UT is on a steady upward trend, while UM has been in the doldrums for years. He's made a name and face here. Heck, he's built a very strong brand here. I think he'll stay. Only places I think he would go are those where he could win a NC sooner.

Which would be Michigan. Kansas, UConn, and UNC aren't opening up anytime soon. Kentucky will probably go with both barrels after Billy Donovan... or Pearl.

Just because you think he can win the Big 10 sooner than the SEC doesn't mean he can win a NC sooner...

Last time I checked, UF didn't even win the SEC East last year.

I don't believe for a second that he would ever consider UK.

I doubt it also, but Kentucky would make a run at him, imo.

I'll say this, if Pearl is able to scratch/claw his way to 20 wins this year and make a great showing in the NCAA's (Sweet 16), he will get some serious offers that would be enough to make him reconsider staying in Knoxville...

The Big 10 league office wants absolutely no part of Bruce Pearl coaching in their league.

I'm not a part of the CBP lovefest, but I'm with them on not wanting him to be a part of the Big 10.

I don't think Pearl's admired too much in Chicago.

There is also absolutely no way Kentucky will even entertain the thought of hiring Bruce Pearl.
