Pearl

After he essentially ruined the coaching career of public school legend Jimmy Collins, Bruce doesn't have to worry about ever having a chance in Chicago.

He doesn't have a chance anywhere in the Big 10. Although, Pearl was actually a temporary canidate for the Indiana gig last year. But I highly doubt he will get any offers that way(pertaining to the Big 10) anytime soon..

He isn't admired anywhere in the state of Illinois or Iowa..

Meanwhile, Pearl was able to recruit Marques Johnson (transfered) and Ramar Smith out of Big Ten Kountry in just his second year here. I'm sure if Pearl was at Michigan, he could gain ground in Chicago.

Once again, you guys are out smarting yourselves. 17-18 year old kids don't have any idea about what went on in the late 80's... and could careless, to be honest. Only the dinosaurs would have any hard feelings about Pearl's "snitching"...

We've already seen the distain Jim Delaney has for SEC football. I can't imagine what he thinks of SEC basketball that includes Pearl.

The people doing the hiring and the donating know exactly who CBP is and what transpired.

TVA, don't know much about the Chicago Public League, do you? All of the guys coaching in that league now are well aware of the fact Bruce cost Jimmy Collins his place as Lou Henson's successor. Those guys have neither forgotten nor forgiven Pearl. He would be as successful recruiting Chicago as the GOP would be trying to find members in Oakland.

Every coach has some skeletons and baggage. Coach Pearl has made mens Tennessee basketball a winning program again, and thats good enough for me right now. It was hard watching the Vols be irrelevant even alongside the womens team.

You really think the parents are gonna influence the kids to not go to Michigan because of something that happened 20 years ago? OK...

Unless you are talking about parents like Harrison Smith's, most parents wouldn't even be aware of Pearls "snitching".

And yet the Gop gets by somehow, as will coach Pearl.

Pearl will certainly get by. He'll just have to do so without any talent from the Chicago Public League, just like the GOP survives with no votes in Alameda County.

Just because he turned UT competitive does not mean that he made amends to anyone besides Tennessee fans. I don't know much about the situation and if Pearl was wrong, then as Deon Thompson put it, it is hard to forgive a snake... That's why I'm staying ignorant on the situation.........

When given the opportunity to start/have significant playing time as freshmen, not many kids would turn down that chance for a major university. Bruce's track record just this year shows he will play freshmen and place a lot of responsibilty on them early. In the end, the kids just want to play. Coaches/parents will have their say, but recent history is more tangible than something that happened before any of these kids were even born.

He makes a reasonable point hat, there is always a kid or two who will look past those issues and would consider playing for Pearl.. While he doesn't have a great reputation out there(Chitown), he is liable to pull a kid out there sooner or later..

Hat also makes a reasonable point. Most kids listen to their high school coach. If that guy hates Pearl, he's going to do whatever he can to slander Bruce's name.

Ever? In recruiting, "never" could last as long as two seasons if he turns around Ann Arbor. If he has the success there in his first 2 seasons as he's had here, all of the naysayers will be drowned out by the potential pitter pat of recruits making visits to Michigan and showing more interest.

I understand that, but they don't always listen to their high school or aau coaches.. Just ask JJ Hickson..
His coach recommended he attend UT.. But guees what, he decided on NC State.. the point is, they don't always listen to their coaches and parents..

Bruce will never have any appreciable success getting players out of the Chicago Public League, regardless of where he coaches. You act as if the elite players from the CPL don't get offers from every major school in the country. The kids will be able to keep their parents and high school coaches off their backs by simply going to Illinois, Kansas, Arizona, or any of a number of other schools who have done well in the Windy City.

Last time I checked, JJ Hickson doesn't play in the CPL.

Your missing the point.. You said they listen to their coaches advice.. While that's true alot of times.. That doesn't always factor into their decision hat.. Regardless if they play in the CPL or not.
