I don’t think I could ever abandon the vols for good, but I am less interested than I used to be and enjoy putting my focus onto other things like guitar more nowCollege football we know is done. $$$$ makers are gonna get their way. There may come a day though, young athletes will have to decide to either join the g-league out of high school or go get a college education. I would much rather watch a group of young athletes compete for their school, with a free education, boarding, and nourishment, even though they are of less talent, then the so called future g-league player out of high school and his/hers family thinks. And maybe once a young athlete makes that decision, that's it. He ain't running back to college. Period. Nadda. First it was baseball, then basketball, now football. Go ahead and start g-league football with all the dam sponsors you want. I won't be watching. Never thought it would come to this, but after 50 years as a True VOL Fan,,, I'm out.![]()
I am still in but feel similarly. If you drop down to D-2, you can still fan like you used. I’m going to start taking my boys to some Maryville College games next year and see where that leads.College football we know is done. $$$$ makers are gonna get their way. I agree, I just don’t believe you. I’ve told myself this and keep watching.College football we know is done. $$$$ makers are gonna get their way. Same, I'll watch just as much, but care less...(unless of course, our re-tooled D starts to throttle everyoneStarting to agree…… WAY less invested and WAY less interested.
Same, I'll watch just as much, but care less...(unless of course, our re-tooled D starts to throttle everyone). Take Vandy game this year...in the past, I'd be off the rails that we lost to lowly Vandy. I still hated losing to Vandy, but it didn't de-rail my weekend...was more like, they were a better team that was better coached and displayed more effort.
Yeah its changed for me, but its not all bad. Between this and getting older Ive mellowed quite a bit. Honestly, looking back, I think that 2015 Florida game flipped a switch. I still get excited and emotional but the highs arent as high and the lows arent nearly as low and only lasts minutes or maybe a few hours instead of weeks and months. Some of y'all are just cry kid's. Get over it or move on. I have a little faith that portal and nil can get some fine tuning. It's not like putting the tooth past back in the tube but it would create some normalcy and consistency.
It is what it is and it was always going to come to this.
I'm watching every game...I'm still excited the Monday before game....I'm still pacing the floor...yelling...still eating and drinking my fav on game day and I'm still aggravated the next day after a loss...BUT IM ECSTATIC when we win. This doesn't change much for me....I'll simply adapt so I can continue to have something in my life that I love....VOLS!
Take heart, a few more court decisions will trigger a few vote hunting candidates from both sides of the isle to step up and take some ambiguity out of the laws and return college sports back closer to a place for amateur athletes to prepare themselves for professional sports, not enter them. 90% of schools are disadvantaged and those voters of both parties will be approached. Clearly not a partisan issue. Competitive balance is a wonderful concept in most precincts. And our AD charges a talent fee last year and next year your season tickets are going up another 4%. Up Up Up. NIL has no cap, portal is a joke but ya have to join it or your toast, and now allowing G league guys back in college. What are we doing?
I always thought this take was ridiculous and easily disproven. There's no big fandom coalescing around low majors and D-II teams who largely aren't talented enough to generate competition for their commitments. People aren't tuning in to see terrific uniforms or coaches or athletic directors. They're tuning in to watch great players. It's wild that it took over 100 years to get money to the people creating the value.College football we know is done. $$$$ makers are gonna get their way. How did Indiana buy the Championship team? Their entire roster was pretty much made up of players no one had ever heard of. Cignetti took a bunch 3* guys and built a solid team of guys who believed in themselves. He did it in two years also with a bunch of guys he brought from James Madison. Penn state is following this same model right now as Campbell brought a bunch of his players from Iowa State.Indiania just proved it's all about buying a team. You can find good coaching and good players everywhere. You could take away any single person and insert another one at a doormat football school and they could still win that championship, even Cignetti is replaceable. What you can't take away is the money. Without the money, they could have never done it. They literally became a championship caliber team overnight. Actually I guess you could take away Mark Cuban and they couldn't have but but I just consider him money. Did anyone thank him in their speeches? Kinda weird if they didn't cuz without him they would still be a 3 win team.
I have 15 years on you as a Vol fan! I’ll always be one!! I’m not a fan of the way NIL has changed the game but if you think paying players is new because of NIL you are mistaken. He evaluated players based on their performance and experience at the college level. He didn't develop them. Then Mark Cuban spent 10s of millions buying them. That's no secret. High school stars don't matter, they didn't look at their high school performance grades. They did a great job doing it but it will be replicated and probably next year. You will see dominant teams that are made up of upper class men with a lot of experience bought from the portal. How did Indiana buy the Championship team? This was the perfect example of good coaching beating teams with players rated much higher than anyone on Indiana's team. Given that, it remains to be seen what they can do next year with staff changes and player losses.

It didn't take two years, it was literally overnight. Mark Cuban steps in and gives Indiana 10s of millions. They buy a coaching staff, and players and they make the playoffs year 1. Their only losses were to the two teams that made the NC game. That's instant success.
You obviously don't get it. Pick one of the 16 starters that have Mark Cuban money in their pocket. It's not about stars or star power. Hats off, he bought a great team.List the super star players they bought for the Championship run
