Paying Players?

I'm for it but don't see it happening. I think everyone on athletic scholarships would have to be paid. That would be the hangup.

people have lost their minds with this stuff.

the ncaa, who i despise as well, is not the problem here. get the kids out of the school who don't want to be in school.

there needs to be a minor leagues for football and basketball like there is for baseball and hockey.

get the people who don't want to be in college out of the college.

If we pay them we get to keep them for as long as we want, right? "Oh sorry you didn't get drafted, now back to work!"

Plus we also get to fire them.

Agreed. They are getting a FREE EDUCATION...something the rest of us paid tens of thousands of dollars for. If they don't want the education, go do something else for a while.

+1

These kids need to learn that they are STUDENTS first. Their football talent got them a chance to be a student for free. If they don't care for school, then they should not be allowed to play ball. A degree from UT and a huge stage to display their football talent should be payment enough.

It's not just sports, if your going to pay an athlete to play in college...why would the kid who got a ship to become a scientist not be paid? Maybe taking a pitch on an end around is worth more than a cure for cancer.

When television rights are sold, products licensed, a kid's likeness gets used for free and 100,000 people show up to watch a science experiment, I'll buy that analogy.

I totally agree. Video games are made with the players likenesses and sold without them making a dime off that. It is absolutely mind-boggling stupid to argue that they shouldn't share in any profits from that. And that is only one example out of the hundreds like posters, billboards, etc...

Granted this was years ago, but players used to recieve wat was referred to as laundary money. This amounted to about $20 a month in the 1960's. Enough to take a girl out for a movie and a pizza. I think the NCAA should allow something similar. These kids are not able to work for an income, and should be given a stipend in order to afford to go out from time to time.

The only problem I can forsee is that kids that go to more prominent athletic schools may receive more cash than a kid thak attends a lesser athletic program.

If the NCAA were to make everything equal across the board, I would be for it, hell these kids make alot of money for their schools, but there is certainly a problem if larger athletic conferences are able to give their student athletes more than others. This could create a Major League Baseball situation, where you have the haves and alsorands.

Though I agree with your premise, this would kill college football in the end. jmo.

. . . and trade them. :) Plus, JUCO's would be the new free agents. Strikes, lock-outs, collective bargaining agreements -- would be awesome for college football. :ermm:

They're trying to make it fair. I think it would help especially with all the under the table crap that goes on. UT has plenty of CA$H anyway lol Heck even if it don't pass, which it won't. DD has his name on paper as a payer if u catch my drift. May draw some important guys in

I don't believe getting something you either don't want or need would classify as payment

A college degree to a true sport star is a waste of their time - just like a degree is worthless to the most intelligent humans

It is the rest of us who are not that talented at music, sports, or intellect who need a college degree and then try and impose that same value system on those who do not need or do now want a degree

no, it wouldn't.

which do you think would draw a bigger crowd, florida vs. tennessee or a minor league football game between the orlando hurricanes vs. the memphis smokies?

let cameron newton and the like play minor league ball. see what happens when they are out of the game after six years having never made it to the nfl.

then, watch them, if they try, attempt to get into college based on their high school transcripts and SAT scores. then, let's see them have thousands of dollars in student loan debt.

let's see how the slaves and plantation crowd like that outcome for several of these athletes.....because, that's exactly what would happen.

College football would end up watered down, just look at college baseball.

Exactly sorry you didn't go pro. Maybe if you went to class you could get a job.

They really should pay these guys. These guys earn the money every day and without them the school would be missing out on millions and millions of dollars in revenue. $300 a game isn't so much that make millionaire college student (though I would be cool with that too) but it is a fair wage for services provided.
