It worked...yes it did work. But I seriously doubt it will work again. Offenses have changed since then. The spread dominates football now like the option used to. Generally the teams that run it now are not in a big conference like the SEC.
I still see Scott Frost and Ahman Green turning the corners against Us in Miami in 1997 and our guys barely able to move from being worn down so much in my nightmares lol
Especially after we jumped out to an impressive lead only to have them run roughshod over our D.
How about the time when Tommy had the ball against UF and their whole defense tried to tackle him and he kept on running for a TD. The next day on the radio i heard an announcer say "This just in Nebraska has scored again."
Again...I heard the same logic about Meyer's offense (the spread option). Hasn't happened.
Miami's defense is ranked 33rd....ahead of UNC, Florida, Texas, UT,
Couldn't disagree more. Speed doesn't beat the triple option. Defensive line penetration does.
Triple option negates speed. Makes defenses focus on assignments, not moving in space.
Defenses have to tackle the fullback first and foremost. Easier said than done. That isn't a speed issue.
Wow, they had that on a top notch SEC team. I thought UT was trying to get back to where they used to be and beat GA,FL, etc. I don't think we should mention Miss. state's game against GA Tech. as a good example of how it would work in the SECBy the way....Tech smashed Mississippi State 38-7. This year.
They had 438 yards rushing.
However, that offense would NEVER work against an SEC defense. (note the sarcasm).
438 yards rushing......
the spread option would probably work for a full season and maybe half of the next... but with the speed the defenses have in the SEC, it wouldn't work as a full time offense..essentially you take away the angles and you've stopped the whole attack
D@mn!! GT has almost 400 yards rushing and UT rushed for 1 yard vs UGA!!!! WTF!!! Why don't more teams run a similar version of this?
