Paul Johnson (Georgia Tech)

By the way....Tech smashed Mississippi State 38-7. This year.

They had 438 yards rushing.

However, that offense would NEVER work against an SEC defense. (note the sarcasm).

438 yards rushing......

It worked...yes it did work. But I seriously doubt it will work again. Offenses have changed since then. The spread dominates football now like the option used to. Generally the teams that run it now are not in a big conference like the SEC.

Recently worked pretty well against a solid SEC defense.... Anyone remember Air Force vs UT?

I still see Scott Frost and Ahman Green turning the corners against Us in Miami in 1997 and our guys barely able to move from being worn down so much in my nightmares lol

Especially after we jumped out to an impressive lead only to have them run roughshod over our D.

How about the time when Tommy had the ball against UF and their whole defense tried to tackle him and he kept on running for a TD. The next day on the radio i heard an announcer say "This just in Nebraska has scored again."

We never had the lead in that game :ermm:

That game scared the hell out of me...I swear it seemed like anything Air force wanted to do they did it, We were so confused its amazing We didn't lose that game.

Miami's defense isn't that good--that's why the option worked. Against UNC, Ga Tech couldn't do anything.

the spread option would probably work for a full season and maybe half of the next... but with the speed the defenses have in the SEC, it wouldn't work as a full time offense..essentially you take away the angles and you've stopped the whole attack

Again...I heard the same logic about Meyer's offense (the spread option). Hasn't happened.

Miami's defense is ranked 33rd....ahead of UNC, Florida, Texas, UT,

Couldn't disagree more. Speed doesn't beat the triple option. Defensive line penetration does.

Triple option negates speed. Makes defenses focus on assignments, not moving in space.

Defenses have to tackle the fullback first and foremost. Easier said than done. That isn't a speed issue.

Well said and I will add, Confusion freezes speed

Wow, they had that on a top notch SEC team. I thought UT was trying to get back to where they used to be and beat GA,FL, etc. I don't think we should mention Miss. state's game against GA Tech. as a good example of how it would work in the SEC

"That" offense wouldn't work in the SEC.

Gashing UGA for over 300 yards rushing and they know it's coming!! Wow!

Yes, this after Coach Richt said that they've been working defensively on this system since the hire of Paul Johnson.

I new this was coming. Fulmer has beaten Georgia pretty good before as well. It's one game.

Sorry. No. This is what they said about his coming to the ACC.

"The defenses in our amazing conference are just toooo fast!!!!!!!"

Uh, yeah ok. That 1/2 of a tenth of a second your outside linebacker shaved off his time at some HS camp two years ago doesn't make a difference in real time when the pads get put on.

A great coach is a great coach regardless of the system.

D@mn!! GT has almost 400 yards rushing and UT rushed for 1 yard vs UGA!!!! WTF!!! Why don't more teams run a similar version of this?

Because it's jus tlike any other system....you have to know the system inside and out and be an EXCELLENT coach for it to produce consistent results.

I don't think any one system is inherently superior to another. It's all about execution. Some systems are however harder to execute and therefore take a superior coach to pull off.

You can be a crappy Pro Style, crappy West Coast, or crappy Triple option coach.
