Any chance we get him? He was great at navy and has GT looking great in his first season there. Many people predicted them to be 2nd to last (in front of duke) in the ACC. What do you guys think?

Please God No...........

He runs the triple option flexbone, that would fail horribly at UT with the speed on defense of every school in the SEC(other than KY)

I doubt he'll leave a school after one season. I also doubt a option offense is going to be accepted by a large majority of the fanbase and/or boosters.

I don't think there is any chance Paul Johnson will be the next head coach here.

I like him though.

He won't leave Tech. I don't see the type of personality to allow him to jump ship after 1 year. Plus, he is already developing his players here and if he happens to find a way to beat UGA, he can do no wrong after that for the Ramblin' Wreck.

Ya thats what I was concerned about. But I though maybe if we could get some good speed it would work well. I mean the triple option destroyed UT (air force). Very physical. But probably right, too boring and may not fair well.

The Triple option killed us against Air Force because nobody runs anymore. Give SEC defenses a year to catch on w/ all the size and speed and we will be looking for a new coach in 2-3 years.

He's in a good conference for that offense. Won't cut it long term in the SEC.

You're all insane.

Why? I promise you the fans will not get excited and the boosters will not pony up the money to get a triple option coach at Tennessee.

I like Paul Johnson but he'll never be in consideration for the job.

That part is probably true. I'm talking about the idea that the offense would never work in the SEC.

Throw in the fact that the base triple is only one of a number of plays; they have four or five bread-and-butter instead of the standard one or two.

He'll never leave Tech after one year, but he has always been my #1 choice. Offense will not work in the SEC? Bull****. It has worked everywhere he has been against every team he has gone against.

Trust Me folks, The triple option has worked in the SEC for years and years before Spurrier and gang showed up and started throwing the ball every down...The triple option can be a very lethal weapon when used properly...Hell Nebraska was killing everybody up until a few years ago with it so why wouldn't it work?...That type of offense just wears down defense to the point of total exhaustion...I am bias however, I love the triple option offense. :D

Nebraska never ran a triple option though. I have a couple of their old playbooks sitting around somewhere, and I honestly don't think the triple is even in there.

with all the chat about possible HC replacements i thought i'd throw another name out there. Paul Johnson from GA Tech. I know they just lost to NC today but i love what Johnsons doing to GT in his first year. He was a successful at Navy before that also. He may be a little old, but he's a great coach.

i love how everybody rejects candidates and doesnt even offer a reason why they dont like them. if your going to argue against a candidate i think you can find a better argument than just saying "no"

He would be about #24 on the list, but, technically, he would be a possibility.

Oh, and - thank you, no.

The system that he runs would not work at Tennessee

I actually like him...love his offensive attack and for those of you saying it wouldn't work in the SEC are dead wrong, any offense will work if you have the right people running it.

The triple option would not be a step forward for UT and would certainly be a major turnoff for any highly rated pro-style QBs and WRs.

One of the strengths of Fulmer's skill at recruiting is his ability to get players NFL-ready by running offenses comparable to those in the NFL. His track record is pretty impressive. The triple option, like the spread, needs specific athletes to succeed, but not necessarily the athletes we are used to recruiting.
