With all due respect - those two teams are the ones that represented the SEC in the last 5 BCS championship games where there was an SEC team that made it that far.

Yes the show has Birmingham roots, and Finebaum has made a lot of money trolling the trailer park callers. However - you can't deny that (lately) the iron bowl has a h*ll of a lot more excitement than us playing our biggest in state rival, Vandy.

I think the show will evolve once Butch gets more wins under his belt than losses - and if we actually WIN against these teams - (or if they start losing) - Tennessee will be the more of a topic of conversation.

Finebaum is no fun to listen too when Bama is winning. I LOVED it during the Bama's meltdown - starting with them putting Stallings out to pasture and the fiascoes that followed with the 3 Mikes (Shula, Price, Dubose) and Dennis Franchione.

Bama's walk in the wilderness lasted almost as many years as ours, and Finebaum - being the troller he is - kept the pot stirred up. I actually think he contributed more to the turmoil at Bama during that period than anyone.

It was a long and complicated journey that Bama went through during their down years - involving Fulmer blowing the whistle, rogue booster, Logan Young in Memphis dying by falling down some stairs (was he pushed?), a coach getting drunk with strippers and getting fired, Dubose just being "Dumbose" (ended up happily coaching a high school team), and having the fans turning on their coach when they realized Shula was their Dooley.

Every step of the way, when there was a chink in the armor, Finebaum found it, stuck the knife in and twisted it.

Finebaum has no problem bringing out the long knives when something goes south. Fun when it isn't "your school".

By the way - he's starting to set Butch up. Basically, he's saying that they hype around UT football is so high that if Butch has a losing season, he is in trouble. He's setting this up for a "put up or shut up" year, when in fact we may be a year away from real heat on CBJ.

He's still got UGA penciled in as SEC east winner, but I've detected a man crush by Finebaum on Dobbs. He came back for a journalism award last spring, and for the first time, I heard him throw some glowing words our way.

His show does have some good guests that offer interesting opinions. Better than listening to the regulars. Also - he knows where his bread is buttered and caters to his base. I've always thought that his seeming allegiance to Bama was the fact that he realized he could stir up their ultra sensitive fan base, and make a boatload of $$$$$$ doing it. That is his greatest genius.

Edit: P.S. He'll have the long knives out for Saban and Kiffen when we beat them. Hope it happens this season. More likely next year.

It's going to be hilarious when we finally win some meaningful games and all of our rubes come out of the woodwork crowing on Finebaum and start kissing his ass. Honestly, I think the guy is brilliant. He has turned a local Birmingham sports radio show into a nationally broadcasted show simulcast on the SEC Network that now have people calling in about Ohio State and from other moron fan bases.

I gotta say when I first saw that the SEC Network would be simulcasting a radio show for 4 hours every afternoon, I thought who the hell would watch that. Now I DVR it everyday. Its pretty much become must watch TV for me. Alot more entertaining that I could've ever imagined.

I actually call the Finebaum show quite a bit (Celina from Columbus Ohio) and while, yes, he's Bama-focused, that's because all his long-time callers like Phyllis and Tammy and Iman came while he was doing a show that centered on Alabama/Auburn. It's telling, though, that from day one on his TV show there was a Smokey doll (since broken) by his microphone. The thing with Finebaum is that aside from the crazy just-for-entertainment fan callers, there are also quite a few knowledgeable, substantial callers and a lot of real football issues are discussed.

And then, of course, there is Jim from Tuscaloosa, who I totally dismantled on an ambush call a couple of months ago. Wrecked that old liar's ego so badly he "quit" the show for two weeks. :loco:

Great times, great times.

But yeah--Finebaum is HUGE on Dobbs and Dak Prescott both, and he's already come out on record and said UT would beat Oklahoma. He's pretty sold on the Vols this fall--unless someone who's not quite up on their facts calls up and starts talking about UT winning the playoff this year but unable to back up those claims with anything other than GO VOLS.

Nope. Quite a few of the old callers got pissed when Finebaum started talking about teams that are not in Alabama.

Finebaum and Booger McFarlane just gave Josh Dobbs more love. Booger thinks Dobbs will be the top QB in the SEC this season, even over Dak PRescott.

Gotta admit. They're convincing a lot of people.

I listened to the show on my way home today.. TAMMY called in.. having a RING EYED HISSY on the phone with Finebaum.. at the end she yelled AUBURN AND TENNESSEE will be in Atlanta!! I laughed...FINALLY, Miss Tammy was correct on the Last team she picked!!

Mizzou fans are the WORST at that. OMG they are SO whiny about it, and they don't understand that you can't get blown out in the SEC Championship game two years in a row while UT and UF are way down and get 'respect' when they back door their way into the division title.

But they'll understand it better after this season, I'm thinking.

After the commercial break some IDIOT.. again I shall repeat that word.. IDIOT.. called in from Florida and was confused about how BJ was getting so much praise, I almost puked on my steering wheel.:banghead2:

The only caller my wife and I can't stand is that Lance "Boomhower" Gator fan from Jasper, Tn. Smebody needs to start a "Go Fund His Move To Florida" account. Lol

Lol, yup, he is an odd character no doubt. Jim does it for me, it is difficult to describe it.. I am to the point of almost feeling sorry for him, then I recall how much he "irks" me with his "Wisdom".... what is funny is how he wants to remind everyone how smart his idiot butt is:crazy:
