Paul finebaum show

Can someone fill me in and explain why everyone says finebaum is a bammer?
I'm a younger vol fan so I don't know a whole lot about what his history is. I've heard he lived in Birmingham for a long time, why would he? And does that necesarly make him a bammer? Thanks

Just watch his show a little. May not be quite as bad right now because of BB and Marc Madness kicking in.

:hi:

He really isn't a bammer. AU fans have always said that but really he is far from it. He does love him some Saban and that has lead to him being called that too. You can tell when he talks about coming back to UT last yr he really has a love for UT. But being in Ala if he wanted to stay on the air he couldn't go all Vol in Alabama. He did what he had to do to get to this point in his career. Would be like an Ala guy coming to TN but going full bammer. Wouldn't get him very far.

I tend to agree w/ Jasonvol. First and foremost....he is a fan of whomever will get the ratings up - he started in Alabama so naturally the bammers and barners jumped on his show. He is also a fan of great competition and which ever team(s) are in the hunt...see ratings. I've heard him slam bama, auburn, Saban and just about any other team or coach who doesn't win when they should....or prove to be totally incompetent....like Chizik and Dooley.

In the end...while it may not make particular fans happy...he can be (and frequently is) quite harsh, condescending, etc...but calls it like he sees it.

Absolutely. I have heard him slam Ala as much as anybody. He even slams his boyfriend Saban at times. He was hard on UT about the Dooley hire from the beginning but has been very high on and really likes Butch. He has pissed off every SEC fan base and I forget who Alabama's last basketball coach was but his wife got into with Finebaum over how he talked about her husband. But he is in the business where showing where your allegiance is can have you unemployed pretty fast. It has gotten him from a lowly beat writer and newspaper journalist to having his own call in show on the SEC network and one of the hosts on SEC Nation. I don't agree with everything he says but he definitely isn't a Bammer

I believe that one of his first assignments after school was covering Paul Bryant for a local newspaper in AL. He literally fell in love with him and the football team while he was on the job. If you love "The Bear" in AL, you are well liked by about 95% of the population in AL. He got the radio show, and he started to play to the masses. He had some good interviews, but making it into the "Jerry Springer Show" of AL football made him what he is today. The TV show is really much more tame than the old radio show.

I am a SEC fan. When ESPN announced that there was going to be a SEC sports channel I was excited and could hardly wait. While it has given me the opportunity to see things about all the teams I never would have seen otherwise, I am extremely disappointed in the Paul Finebaum Show. What was to have been a call in show for all the teams has become a show for 'Bama and Auburn fans to exchange barbs and insults with each other. Very seldom is any other caller representing a team other that those 2 allow to get any air time. I for 1 and tired of hearing only about THEM. Please join with me in asking ESPN/SEC officials to have a balanced - unbias show or get someone to replace PF and his producer. I'm sure all the teams in the SEC are paying their salaries. Only 2 of the 14 teams in the SEC are getting their monies worth. Please send your requests to paulfinebaumshow@espn.com,secsports.com/feedback. Let's take control of what is suppose to be OUR show. thanks

I agree, plus I like your avatar.....:good!:

Winning cures all. I fully expect our group of idiots to be calling in a lot in early August.

The show was based out of Birmingham and it has a group of loyal callers that are indeed insane, but have helped Finebaum get to where he is today. I respect PF for not forgetting who helped him succeed and allowing idiots like Charles from Reeltown or Phyllis call in regularly.

:good!: I lived in Birmingham and I can tell you he will not hesitate to call it like he sees it. Give him time to develop the fan base of the other SEC markets. I met him one day in a restaurant several years back and he seemed like a nice guy. I agree that some of his callers are obnoxious Bammers, but they are so stupid they are funny...surely no one takes them seriously enough to become angry! Just think how they will sound when the Vols light them up in the next few seasons! My guess is that there will be a number of UT hillbillies (no disrespect) calling by then. "Paww" is a UT grad...GBO!
13 pages on VN shows he is doing his job...

Clay Travis is just trolling and Finebaum was encouraging it. Since basketball started though it's been one of the more entertaining episodes. They've been talking about Kentucky pretty much the entire month of March and back through some of Feb so it's pretty old.

March madness can't end fast enough and football just can't start fast enough.

Paul seems like a complete weirdo. Did anyone see him on SecNation in Knoxville when he picked us and he was creepily sticking his tongue out at smokey trying to get him to lick him. Geez I wanted to Ralph....

Anybody listen to it today with clay travis.. that was pure radio gold..

I heard it and while it was interesting, Clay will never get another radio show. He has been puffing his chest for months now about how he will get a new show but so far hes been all talk

Considering the kind of callers they are obviously looking for, we should take it as a compliment that there aren't more UT callers.

I think the show is a hilarious cross section of the very worst Alabama has to offer. I would hate it if Tennessee fans stooped to this level.
