If the guy doesn't bleed Orange, let him go. If he can't crack the 2 deep rotation and feels he can do better elsewhere, bye bye. He has a daughter so he isn't just a young 18 year old with no responsibilities. He has a family to think about so lets give the kid a break before we act like haters and bash him for leaving.

Then that's why he left. If you say our coaching staff was considering putting a 5'11, under 200 lb true freshman at LB, he probably thought they were trying to kill him.

Some folks a while back (maybe zas? cant remember) were saying he didn't appear quick enough to play DB and too small to play LB.

Well, one, the roster says he is 6'0/205 (obviously take that with a grain of salt).

And it had been mentioned multiple times that he might not have enough speed for safety and the staff could move him to linebacker.

Dooley already mentioned we don't have enough depth at safety and linebacker for special teams play, Martin seemed to fit both categories, he couldve been important for ST

It was a personal decision to move closer to take care of his family responsibilities. You can't fault the kid for that. I think it's silly to say the kid doesn't bleed orange. He was one of our biggest recruiters last year. I wish him the best of luck.

I bet Pat wanted to be a lot more than a ST player.

He was a player I was looking forward to seeing on the field. Oh well. Best of luck to him

Hope he does well in life. Was a VFL or at least until he stepped foot on campus. I would be willing to bet there are more than one player on campus that is here because of his recruiting efforts. Good luck Pat. We'll be pulling for you no matter where you go!

Obviously, that doesnt negate the need for ST players though, JJ had to be on kickoffs last year

I totally agree, and I think he would have been a great ST player. I just don't think that fit his vision of the way his career at UT should go. Of course my opinion is just pure speculation. It may be absolutely true that he just wanted to be close to his child, if so I can totally respect that.

this does suck - very strange -one of the biggest recruiters to not here before the first game

someone mentioned he had a kid in SC - was this a recent development (ie since the spring?)

WTF? Its just one thing after another?

LOL... compared to what? Do you remember the summer we had in Fulmer's last year? One player after another in trouble...

Or Kiffin's circus?

This is very disappointing and especially considering how hard he recruited for UT before signing. Curious.

It was a mutual decision. Do you really expect us to keep every kid we sign? If he was a two star would you be so upset? I doubt it. This is another example of how "stars" dont always mean they will be Stars........

Does this open up an additional spot for next year's class?

IIRC it was touch and go whether he was going to qualify academically. In fact, I think he was one of the last if not the last to get cleared..... might have had trouble adjusting to college classes as well.

I never expected Martin to come to UT when he committed. Not sure why, but always had a feeling he would change his mind. I missed that one, but not by much.
