From my outsider's perspective, I think Dooley is actually a good coach and great fit for Tennessee.

The injuries you guys have suffered have really diminished your chances this season but I saw a team that was scary to thin about playing earlier in the year.

The Volunteers have been hurt more by recruiting and attrition which has made your depth almost non-existent.

You guys stayed with LSU until your 1st string players got winded...LSU rotated in players without much talent dropoff and just wore you guys down...

You guys may take a few cycles of recruiting to become "Tenn of Old" again but it can happen...hell you guys are pulling in 5-star QBs now and trying to strengthen the OL talents.

Don't call for Dooley's head - you don't need that uncertainty sink your recruiting again this soon...

instead be patient and know that this has to happen for the next few years in order for Rocky Top to get it's foundation strong and solid.

Solid post, but the fan base may not be patient enough to wait 2 more yrs. Barring key injuries next season if this team can't win a SEC game until November what will the excuses be?

Nice post but beware the 'legions of the miserable' (my favorite JM quote) will jump on this observation.

Nice post. Next year will be interesting to see. Maggit, Johnson, Santos, McNeil, O'Brien building the future on defense. Should be fun to watch them grow. But, it will take patience.

I think our schedule and added depth will give us a 8-9 wins next year. We are going to be explosive on offense. should have quality depth on defense, but still have questions at running back and possibly in the secondary.

The problem is the 2013 schedule is going to be terrible, a lot like this season. We have away games at Bama, Florida, Oregon and possibly Auburn or A&M. The out of conference scheduling has to be changed in the future and made as easy as possible or we will have a very hard time going to BCS games again, or higher tier bowls for that matter. I can't believe Hamilton put Oklahoma on the schedule after the KILLER 2013 schedule. Nothing like a loss to kill the confidence before we have to play UF.

Really? LSU played Oregon and WVU this year. Are they complaining? I am not worried about it. We'll have plenty of talent coming in and should have more depth by then.

Your right but thank goodness they are not the ones who can get rid of Dooley. I just wander where these people will be when Dooley does get us turned around? Then all the negavols will say they were behind Dooley to start with.

They disappear and lie in wait. When something happens and there's enough of a stink around for them to not be sniffed out immediately, they come out of hiding and strike. Some people love negativity because they know if they wait long enough they can prove themselves right - even if it is only for one moment in time.

I think next season is make or break if there are no injuries.

I'm so sick of these"fans" that are wanting Dooley gone. It is halfway through his second season after he took over a team on life support. We have 16 total juniors and seniors on this team and few of them are contributers. The team has also had lots of injuries with no depth available. And, UT has one of the toughest schedules in the country. Just what are these "fans" expecting? Please shut your holes and give the guy a chance.

All I can say to the OP is that, in his second year at bammer, I was hoping Mike Shula would be their coach for life (as an outsider looking in that is).

I want Dooley to succeed. He's a great guy and shouldn't be judged on one game or one season or even on what we have seen thus far. It would be foolish to let him go now, at the end of the season, or even at the end of next season barring unforeseen things to come. LSU was pretty much always going to win this game. For all the people that got whipped up into a frenzy thinking that Tennessee was going to walk away with a "W" in this game back in the summer because they almost won last year, didn't you think that the LSU coaching staff and players weren't thinking about the game as well? Factor in the losses of Bray, Hunter, Jackson, Lathers, and don't you think that this was one in a hundred, if not one in a million, shot at a win?

People need to think rationally. I agree that there are some troubling signs in what we have seen so far, but we are on the outside. We don't know what goes on behind the scenes and none (yes, you who thinks I am wrong about this, you too) of us are qualified to prepare this team from week to week for games. Whipping yourself up into a frenzy is not going to help.

I'm not exactly sure, but recruits like to hear that they will have the same coach for 4 years, and they won't come if the coach leaves before they get there. Maybe we should practice letting once coach work for a couple years.

If I were a rival fan and saw UT getting embarrassed week after week, these are the exact same things I would say as well. :)
