Our QB room will be the best in the SEC

I'd get in the portal asap (after NSD). That's just me.
Why would any of those guys do that? BM and JS have to sit out a year if they transfer and they don't even know if anyone is interested in having them. Tennessee will immediately drop any of them if they go into the portal so if they go in now they'd have no clue what their future holds, if they stay through spring at least they will know where they stand in Knoxville. JG would be the only one other schools would make a play on as BM and JS have shown nothing as to why a team would want them to come and be their starter 2 seasons from now in '21.

Bailey is not the most acclaimed QB recruit since Peyton. Clausen was ranked the #2 overall QB in America. Crompton was #2 or #3, as well. Heck, Guarantano was ranked the #2 dual threat in America.

Everybody forgets poor ol' Casey and he came in with John Rattay who was also ranked around where Bailey is now. James Banks was a 5 star QB coming out of high school. Bray was ranked above where Bailey is as well.

That would be worst possible scenario for the Vols imo. JG needs to be thanked for his efforts this year and then told to move on. We then need a legit qb battle between Maurer, Shrout and HB, all 3 of which have much higher ceilings than the incredibly inconsistent, mercurial Guarantano.

Thank you for your posting efforts, much appreciated. Now we are going to ask you to move on to Vandymania as your services are no longer required, or requested here. Thanks, buh bye.

Should be a interesting off season. You have two good hands players gone in JJ and MC and you have some speed coming in that will require the QBs to adjust and really learn the receivers . 7 on 7 will be real important for this group.

I said that's what "I'd" do.

Plus the fact everyone and their brother gets waivers. Especially QB's.

Personally I would be happy with BM as the starter, Hill as the experienced backup, and HB on the bench learning. I'm ok with JG and JT leaving. Once again just my personal opinion. I appreciate what JG did this year but I think this team has a higher ceiling with the young guys playing.

Four year starter who is top 35 in qb rating, top 20 in ypa , top 10 ypc coming back.

Great recruit in Bailey.

Then a bunch of meh.
Hill was bad at Maryland. BM was bad besides one quarter. Shrout I don't ever see being a factor.

I don't forget them at all, that was certainly a great group. As for the rankings, does it really matter once you are considered a top50 player in your class by nearly everyone that evaluates talent? I don't know if HB can be as good as Casey or Bray, I just believe that at this time, come SPRING, Tennessee will have arguably the best QB room in the SEC.

I would say Maurer has potential but he's going to be a project.

I don't think the coaches like Shrout at all, after that USC game we never saw him again and I thought he had a decent game.

Bailey is an unknown because no one knows how these kids will develop once they get here and I don't know that Hill was brought here to play QB.

Dont count out Hill yet. Hill looked very good before an injury and didnt regain form. He kicked the **** out of a much better Tejas team. He has size, arm, speed.... Chamey may be able to get the best outt of him. He could start next year.

Why? They may have a higher ceiling but it's doubtful they hit it next season. Why would you not go with the guy whose ceiling is higher at the time?

Bama, LSU, and UGA will have better QB rooms...pretty easily.
No way on any of them. They all 3 will be starting from scratch in the spring. They may have talented kids but their room in the SPRING is going to be a mess.

I agree. BM has potential. I just don't think he beats out JG or HB.

Hill is not good. JT is a turnover waiting to happen.

Nice to see that you are, if nothing else, consistent.
Why thanks, appreciate it. I think it’s beyond fair.

Guarantano’s story this year, his resilience and how he helped the team vs Ky, UAB and Mizzou, all that was great. But he remains inconsistent and limited. Maurer, Shrout and, I believe Bailey, all have higher ceilings than JG and him being here takes up too much “oxygen” in the QB room. It takes valuable reps and coaching time away from the guys with more potential. They need the chance to grow and compete and develop and JG hinders all that imo.

As Doug Mathews said this past Sunday on his show, this team, to get where it needs to get to, “needs a special player at QB”....well, we know what JG is, and he’s just not that guy. So, let’s go ahead and see if one of the higher potential younger guys are or can be.

Meet with JG, hug him, tell him he’ll always be remembered fondly, thank him for everything positive he did this year to help turn things around....and then tell him you’re going a different direction, that he needs to transfer and then wish him good luck.

we could also have the best OL group, LB group and secondary in the SEC in '20 as well. Pruitt has really turned the roster over going into his 3rd year.

I agree we'll have a lot of talent at QB, but having the best QB1 is probably more important. Right now, I'd say JG might be the 5th or 6th best SEC QB.

I don't think we'll have the best LB group next year. To'o To'o is great and Crouch and Harrison have promise, but losing Bituli and Taylor means we'll take a step back there; but maybe not too big of one.

We probably won't have the best O-line either, but we're getting better. Losing Trey Smith will be a blow, but Kennedy (if he can return), Wright, Carvin, and Morris should be a solid group. We could at least be a top 5 SEC O-line that could become elite over time. (Different story if Trey Smith returns for Senior year - could be the best in the SEC).

Our secondary should be solid, though. Arguably a top 3 secondary in the SEC.

Overall, I think it'll be an interesting year. We lose a lot of key players (Jennings, Callaway, Trey Smith, Bituli, D-taylor, and Warrior), but we bring back most of key players at QB, RB, OL, DL, and DB. Be interesting to see if we can find guys to fill the shoes of our departing players at WR and LB.

IF and its a huge if obviously, If JG decides to leave then that leaves BM as the most experienced QB on the roster. I think HB has a lot of potential as well but I guess it just depends on how fast he picks up on things, at least he will be able to work with the team during Bowl Prep if I'm not mistaken?

The only reason I could JG leaving is because of him and his families relationship with Schiano, blood is thicker than water.

I'm not sure how things will play out but I would say we're in good hands moving forward regardless, I know this BM needs to put on some weight and learn how to slide.
