Our fan base is pretty embarrassing, really.

i agree how people are easy to turn and we might even be 3-1 without two horrible fumbles (UCLA, Auburn). My question is, would we still be happy with the way our team is playing and the direction our program is going if we were 3-1? The fact that we will be underdogs to Vandy is almost enough to make me sick.

What I don't understand is how fans, who supposedly support our players, can constantly badmouth our team. Calling Crompton "Cross Eyed Crapton," etc and Fulmer whatever new word in the long line of insults that come up, is outrageous. Makes us look like a bunch of idiots.

I couldn't agree more!!:good!:

You should pass the offering plate after that one!

And you should chip in!!:)

True. I'll be glad to fill that plate with "offerings" my dogs provide.

That's why we call you hat!:)

you definitely wouldn't say it to a person's face, so why say it about players just because we're anonymous on the internet?

Perzactly!:eek:k:

who has the cajones to step up to him in person and call him "cross eyed crapton"?

Damned good question, I wonder who too!!

i remember at a UT home game (UK) a fan walking up to Shuler and asking him for Gus Frerotte's autograph... not a matter of cajones but a lack of class IMO.

Yeah... Lord forbid that some of you should be expected to have some class and human decency.

The OP is exactly right. What kind of fan much more human being kicks someone who is probably hurting as badly as those guys are.

Our commitment is that we go to/watch the games. Their commitment is they invest a huge part of their life and energy to the team.

Crompton's play has been bad but is his situation more worthy of the kind of contempt and personal attacks he's getting or sympathy? He's waited his turn and by all accounts worked hard. He was hyped and has talent. He grew up dreaming of playing for the Vols... and for YOU. Now he's watching his dreams go up in smoke and rather than having the decency to feel badly for him you have "fans" (self-centered jerks is probably a more accurate description) mocking his name? Condemning him as a 22 year old for doing the best he can to handle a very, very publicly personal failure?

Yes. The behavior of alot of Vol fans is very, very embarrassing.
Do you dole out sympathy to the kid working the counter at McDonald's who gaffes your order? While you're contemplating your answer, see if you can find posts where I've done anything but make statistically verifiable criticisms of Crompton's play. You might want to invest in some protective padding. Falling off such a large high horse could cause serious injury if you're not properly prepared.

So you are going to condemn us all for the actions of a few. I find that sad and narrow-minded.

There is a solution. There is an ignore feature for those whose post you don’t like reading.

That's a 100% inaccurate assumption.

Looking forward to meeting you someday!

can't argue that. the internet has become the worse thing to happen to sports and fans.

At first I didn't have that good of an opinion of the internet in general and then I read an anonymous article that stated that some day today would be looked back upon as a a period of renaissance in that heretofore only wealthy individuals, big government or influential corporations could get their ideas out there in front of the public but with the internet every tom, dick and harry has an equal chance.

I think that author didn't consider enough the words of Socrates; (paraphrased) "The average citizen (in this case football fan) hasn't got enough sense to pull his head out of his butt even if he had four hands."

Read my post again...you might have to read it again to totally understand it.

Yeah right.

We make fun of others' plight all year, deriding every silly 'chicken little' thread posted on their boards...then we turn around and have a complete meltdown on our players and coaches.

I understand if you feel that Fulmer is past his prime and needs to retire.

I understand Crompton has played poorly and we need to look at other options.

I understand this team's performance has let us all down.

Criticize the play, but don't belittle the athletes that WE recruited to play for us. They didn't have to come here. We recruited them, and now we're gonna sit around and bad mouth them? What a joke.

Sorry for the rant, but I find it hard to believe a true fan of the program would talk about 18-22 year olds like that. I'm upset about being 1-3. It kills me. But I don't choose to treat other people with that kind of disrespect. It's easy to be a fan when you win every game. It's easy to talk about our guys like they're God's gift. You can tell by reading and hearing stuff from folks that they just want to ride the wave when the sun is out.

Agree with you whole-heartedly.

People in the south wonder why others in the country still label them as rednecks. Reading through some of these posts makes it very clear: they are still labeled as rednecks because they ARE rednecks

a) He says he does not read message boards so how could anything someone says here hurt him.

b) Shouldn’t you also condemn the person who knows he is in over his head but continues to send him on the field week-in and week-out to embarrass himself in front of hundreds of thousands of people at the game and on TV? That person sounds pretty cruel to me.

Yeah right, all who believe that are now gargling with peanut butter.

These threads are getting tiresome

No clothing stores in Dover, that place has gone down hill since I was there, that's weird dude.

The bad start to this season has revealed some things about a certain segment of Voldom than I would rather have never known.

I agree. It's embarrasing. It's embarassing to be a member of a fan base in which 95% of the members are perfectly content to wallow in mediocrity (or worse) with poor coaching, poor execution, poor team discipline and ZERO accountability.

I just find it hard to believe that after 4 weeks we go from supporting Crompton and company as players and people, to treating them like their some kind of invalid that should be set out to die in the elements.

The little rant probably sounds whiny, but I wouldn't talk about any of you like that, you probably wouldn't say something like that about me....you definitely wouldn't say it to a person's face, so why say it about players just because we're anonymous on the internet?

I don't level personal attacks or make personal comments about any of the players or coaches. However, I will gladly tell anybody and everybody to their faces exactly how badly this coaching staff and, as a result of this poor coaching staff, this team sucks. This program will never turn the corner and start to improve until the Fulmer regime is removed.

Yeah i get much worse than they get at school as a 15 year old kid and so do others at my school. They need to get thicker skin. If they are being called out, then respond by playing better. I think we can criticize them. I do agree with you on a point of leaving how people look alone. The whole unibrow, cross-eye thing a/b Crompton is going to far.

Negative. We should expect a certain level of competitiveness. No arguing that. If we need to fire someone, bench another, etc...it has to happen. But you don't have to tar and feather 'em on the way out.

Like I said, I don't make personal attacks or call people names. However, Fulmer is owed NOTHING at this point. If he wants to leave the program under as good of terms as possible, then he needs to tender his resignation immediately. If he does anything short of tendering his resignation within the next hour, then I believe he should be fired and escorted off University property.

Every one has a right to their opinion.we got into a sort of religious tinted debate late last night.Hard things were said on both sides.SO I did a little research and came up with JOB.CHAPTER 7.VERSE 11.Therefore I shall not my refrain my mouth;I will speak in the anguish of my spirit;I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.:good!:I guess the point being vols are passionate about their opinions regardless of wish side of the debate that particular opinion falls on. GO VOLS.:clapping:

Calling Crompton "Cross Eyed Crapton,"

I like that one. Crompton is a grown man. He might be relatively young and in college, but the last time I checked he is an adult. So am I. He sucks at playing quarterback at this level. The end.

Geez, this is getting like the rest of our country and all the politics going on... it really makes me tired. Is there ANY good news, ANYWHERE?? Basketball starts in a few week...maybe it'll be better. At least we can hope...

We don't won't ride the wave when the sun is out but if you support Crapton then its your opinion but i along with alot of TRUE FANS believe its time for a change and I am not saying I want the coaches fired I want a new QB that doesn't throw at the dirt. If you think thats not being a true fan then so be it I DON'T ACCEPT MEDICORE FOR THIS PROGRAM THAT HAS SO MUCH PRESTIGE SO IF YOU DO THEN YOU ARE NOT A TRUE FAN EITHER!!!!!
