Besides Cam, Rashaan, and Kelly we don't have elite dbs.
I'm excited for Warrior
If CDM is correct (i generally find him spot on), then I find his assessment demoralizing, depressing, and disturbing. Weve had 4 recruiting classes since CBJ has taken over and yet we STILL do not have right personnel! Think on that for a moment. How long does it take to find fast, strong DBs with nasty attitudes? Meanwhile UGA, AU, UA continue to vacuum up loads of 4 and 5 star talent.
What the heck are we supposed to do?
Loosing 5 of your top 6 DBs to injury can play a part.
Without Cam, our corners have been too busy watching the ball sail over their heads to make a play on it.
But I thought Shoop was a guru that would make our defense as good or better than Saban.
First off, Jennings isn't our only offensive playmakers. Malone has more catches, many more yards and many more touchdowns.
Secondly, as Mathews argued, Jennings touches the ball on average, less than 3 times per game....that's it. Conversely, if he's playing safety, he'd have 70-75 opportunities to make a play/have impact on defense as opposed to only being able to make a play on offense when he is targeted by our qb, which is virtually never.
So ultimately it's a tradeoff proposal. Jennings has impacted essentially two games this season at WR, vs Florida and Georgia, and it was great impact to be sure. But what could he do, how could he impact/help improve a porous, generally uathletic defensive secondary that desperately needs help? The same question goes double for Byrd who has all of 13 catches in 10 games.
Malone disappears in games at times and he's a solid SEC receiver but wouldn't call him a playmaker or difference maker. Jennings is largely responsible for 2 wins versus our biggest rivals. Fix the run defense and the DB issues sort of fix themselves. Jmo
It was a hailmary play...... JJ should never be moved from reciever, his future is at reciever. People want to see him at safety, but he would not be a good safety. He is not side to side quick enough and doesn't get to top speed quick enough. His build is to skinny to support the run, and his hips aren't safety hips. I don't understand the safety talk. Yes he plays with attitude, but that doesn't translate to being a safety. On the other hand, he is a great reciever and he has a long future there.
