How would he not unite the fanbase? Let us look back at our current/previous two coaches.
Butch- Midwest guy and full of catchphrases. Can talk a good game but can't back it up on the field.
Dooley- Screams Southern Coaching Heritage. Thought he deserved the job and because of his last name, he felt entitled that recruiting and performance would be like Daddy. Also, his momma was crazy.
Lane- West coast guy. Was hired to make a drastic Culture change and turn UT to Southern Cal of the East.
Now circle back to Tee. He checks a lot of boxes:
1-He stayed away from Butch's staff, which is prolly the best and smartest career move he ever made.
2-Has risen quickly thru the coaching ranks due to performance and recruiting.
3-Has vast experience of coaching in different conferences and parts of the country
4-Has a consistent track record of developing talent since he started coaching (WE DON'T HAVE THAT NOW)
5-He has been on fire in his OC career has developed the future #1 draft pick in April barring any injury.
6-Former Vol who gets what Tennessee Football is about and won't bull sh!t the fans (WE HAVE A LOT OF BULLSH!TING THE FANS GOING RIGHT NOW)
I am sorry, but I just don't see why he would be a bad hire if Chip and others turn us down. If USC goes on to the playoff and makes the Natty (BIG IF, I KNOW), he would be a big part of that.
At the end of the day, we can hire someone who talks a big game or someone who puts their head down and gets to work. We haven't had that for some time. Tennessee does better when have a Vol running the show. I find it very hard to believe that people would be pissed if we fired Tee. If hiring Tee is a "sad expectation", than fans have truly no appreciation for former players that happen to be good coaches.
Also, there is ZERO REASONS to saying he would be fired in less than 4 years. There is zilch that suggest that. No coaching issues, no recruiting issues, and no player development issues. Our current coach has 2 of those 3 and he has lasted to 5 seasons. Tee would be a huge upgrade. Also, he has an offense that includes being under center.
