Pac 10 football is terrible.

Ucla and cal couldn't hang with an elite .500 SEC school like tennessee.

Oregon wants no part of neyland stadium. They've heard too many stories from folks in wyoming.

Uh oh. Here comes the gators. Strange how the animal kingdom works, isn't it? Ducks and Gators, huh... j/k guys. Don't blow up on me.

As a long time lurker, I thought I would throw a little fuel on the fire here. I'm a VOL fan now living in Portland (grew up in Nashville). Here's a link to the article about the Ducks on the front of the Oregonian sports section this morning.

Oregon football fall camp preview: Ducks deep on threats, optimism | OregonLive.com

I guess what caught my attention is that UT is mentioned, along with New Mexico and Portland State, as a nice "opportunity to gather momentum" for Oregon in preparation for the Pac-10 schedule.

Personally, I believe that Tennessee will probably have a down year this year. But I have enough confidence in the players and coaches (both past and present) that we will NOT be just an after-thought on anybody's schedule.

Welcome, see if you can teach those North Westerners something about football in the South.

I'm trying. When we were dating, I took my wife to a UT-Alabama game. She had never seen anything like it. She woke up the morning of the game, put on her jacket, and started walking out the door when I stopped her. Told her she had to wear something else. She just could not understand why I would not let her wear her favorite, crimson-red, jacket.

Later, walking down the Strip, she figured it out as she saw a sea of Orange - with just a few red jackets around....

BTW, she LOVED the trip. Now she watches all the games with me on TV - maybe not quiet as passionate about the outcome as I am. She's still learning...

Native Oregonians--Portlanders in general--don't seem to know a lot about SEC football--probably not much about football in general. They don't follow it nearly as closely as Southerners (backyard football even seems non-existent in Oregon). I think TN will be a tougher game than many Oregon fans think...and many are envious of our tradition. I don't really give credence to anything the Oregonian or Oregon fans say about
TN or the SEC--they really don't know what
they're talking about. I agree, those with more Football acumen know that TN will not be an easy win...and not just b/c our stadium rocks. Having said this: When we
moved here in '06, I saw a few Ainge fans wearing TN hats. IMO, TN will narrowly beat OR.

Oregon's program is a wanna be A program. If not for Nike, they would be an ABSOLUTE joke....much like they were before last decade. They are never a legit national title team, and that stadium is laughable compared to half the sec. Either way, we may not have enough players to field a complete team against them.

No, hoss..you "got" nothin'...

You got no history. Your football team has had the same impact on BCS National Championships as has Canada. Zip.

You got no argument. Winning in the PAC-10...once you get past USC...is kinda like kissing your sister. Yeah, it's a kiss...but it's weird.

Tell me...do tell...how many BCS NC's has the PAC-10 won?

And the SEC?

And, you got no clue. Although you apparently live in the south, you have yet to "get it" when it comes to what that means. Odds are, you never will. Again, dress up an idiot, and you end up with a good looking idiot.

(sigh)

I continue to be amazed by opposing fans who come here and convince me what a blessing it was to be born and raised in Vol Country.

You among them.

Go Vols.

Wasn't talking to you, but I'm really glad you're having fun.

Well, if you're looking at Florida, Alabama, etc., sure, there is a difference.

But Tennessee isn't in that category.

tennessee held bama to 12 points and florida to 23 points last year if im not mistaken and had a horrible game against ucla and held them to 19

I was saying that Tennessee's defense isn't top tier. You guys let UCLA score 19 on you at home, and we let them score 10 when we played them on the road.

That was last year, no? Tennessee's D is not going to be as good as it was last year. Somewhere in the 45-50th range, if I had to guess.

Still, Tennessee wasn't in the same category as Alabama and Florida last year.

Playing against the likes of Alabama, Florida, etc and still in the top 25 in D. I'll take that anyday over a +30 pac 10 defense. There's no denying that.

you obviously didnt hear the horrible part i was at that game and the quarterback had a god awful game with like three picks. you guys might win heaven knows but when playing tennessee there is no guarenteed win:superman:

Oh of course. Just stating that i'd take our past few years defenses over Oregon's easily. No questions asked. I'll be at the game, my 1st in NEYLAND!!

I'm sure Wyoming has told similar stories to the ones Miami/Ohio told after beating FL.

Regardless, you're still an Oregon fan, and the fact is that the "proud history of Oregon Football" is best relegated to a placemat at Denny's. A win over a rebuilding UT team won't change that fact.

UT football started in 1891. Oregon football started in 1893.

Oregon does have a long history that Duck fans are proud of. You probably know as little about it as Duck fans tend to know about the history of UT.

This apparently may come as a shock to some. But, when you were watching UT win some past accolade, most of the rest of the country was probably watching Cosby Show re-runs. It's great to watch your team do well. Enjoy it when it happens and savor the memory. Just don't adopt the illusion that anyone else cares so much that they get less out of following their own team.

I'm really starting to feel that CJW can put together a workable gameplan for the ducks. CDD is just trying to keep the few bodies left going in the right direction. I know the two losses so far to injury are horrible, but hearing that confidence in the O-line from CDD is actually making me feel that we can move the ball on them.

I presently live in the Portland area....a few weeks ago I talked to a Comcast guy, a Ducks fan, who is absolutely convinced that Oregon will beat the snot out of TN because of one offensive player that single-handedly almost won a game for Oregon a year or two ago....I quickly reminded him that not even Tim Tebow or the eventual national champs beat the snot out of TN.

Good post. They aren't giving the SEC enough credit. I think the last time they played an SEC team was in 2002 and it was against Mississippi State. Playing in Neyland will be tougher than they think. Oregon is a good team though. I really don't know what to expect this year.
