Oregon is a better football team than Bubba

There continues to be a shocking amount of ignorance here and elsewhere about the kind of players Oregon now has in the trenches. Oregon's current run is not entirely predicated on speedy skill position players - Oregon has future pro talent up front on both sides of the ball, and an elite secondary. The weakness at the start of the season was undoubtedly the RB depth, and the inexperience and, to a certain extent, size deficiency in the linebacker group. The former is quickly becoming a non-issue, as Marshall grows into the kind of workhorse we thought he could be, and Tyner emerges as a big play threat in his own right, and the latter has largely been covered up by the heady play of both the LBs and DBs and the overall athleticism of the front line. This is not a team with the same weaknesses as the previous few Oregon has fielded. It's a deeper, more talented squad than any of the groups that made the previous 4 BCS bowls.

Future pro talent on both sides of the ball? Elite secondary? No on both. You guys have a very good team, but with your schedule you cannot claim elite talent on both sides. Your offense has elite talent, no doubt. Your defense is nowhere near as good. It's not a bad defense, but it's not elite either.

Also, lets not forget last year. I would put K-State or Oregon against that Notre Dame team and put money on a win. The general perception was not many people wanted to send the Irish to the natty, but they had no choice. Most people knew they were overrated based on the easy schedule. Alabama, Oregon, and K-State were ALL one loss teams. So I (keeping in mind I'm biased) put an asterisk next to that national championship game. Because it was the voters who send Alabama. The voters said out of all the one loss teams, it was Alabama who deserved to go. It was a consensus because they had won the last national championship. So really, it was self-fulfilling prophecy by the voters. Oregon beats Notre Dame if they had been selected, then its a different conversation this year.

Edit: I was wrong. Lou Holtz said it was Notre Dame who deserved to go. So there ya go. They had ONE vote as the most deserving team.:)

The voters voted the Bammers because they play in the toughest league and had won 2 of the last 3 NCs…Face it--and no disrespect meant here to the Ducks--you guys could have silenced everyone on here, including me and earned your respect IF you had beaten AU with your chance for the NC--BUT YOU DIDN'T. Not only that, but you've been beaten soundly ONLY by other physical and fast FB teams from the SEC--LSU. This is not opinion--it is just straight facts--and until you win the big one, get used to it.

Next year you will probably get the chance to prove it on the field--and I certainly will be happy about the 4 team playoff….but even the voters will have a HUGE say in who those 4 teams are. :salute:

Just a couple of words--PROVE IT ON THE FIELD BY BEATING ANY ELITE SEC TEAM--or just say beating Stanford and winning the rest of your games--THEN people might be willing to listen.

However, we watch the same games that you do--and the facts are that you guys DO NOT WIN by playing GREAT DEFENSE--you win by running away from lesser and average competition--SPEED. And--you guys are VERY GOOD--until you play the elite teams from the SEC that are VERY physical and Fast--GOOD LORD, man--go back and watch the Wisconsin-Oregon bowl game…

UNTIL you win the whole thing--get used to it! But first you must run the PAC-12 being undefeated to prove it.

And I do honestly hope that you get a chance to play the Bammers this year….THEY BETTER, and will beat you. :salute:

Oregon's Defense is way better than people give them credit for. They are fast across the board and good open field tacklers.

I am not convinced that Bama is going to be undefeated going into the SEC Championship game anyway. They still have to beat LSU and Auburn.

As long as its Oregon or Florida State that plays against Bama if they get there then I am ok with it. I absolutely do not want to see Ohio State in there because it will be just like it was last year. An overhyped team from the Big Ten is given a shot at a National Title against a probably unbeaten Bama team. It will end the same way it did last year.

Bama would kill Ohio State because they would not fear Braxton Miller even in the slightest and their Defense would be a joke to Bama's power running game.

To beat Bama you have to be able to score on their Defense and slow down their running game. Ohio State won't do it. Oregon or Florida State maybe, but not Ohio State.

Bama will beat the dog crap out of any team they play in the title. Saban is just almost unbeatable when he gets that long to prepare for someone. I hope they trip up on the way to the title game because no one will beat them if they get there.

It won't even be close if Bama makes the title game.

When they are focused, they are scary good.

Alabama will beat Oregon easily. The read option works great against slow defenses who lack discipline.

Alabama's defense is fast, strong, and disciplined. Oregon's offense just won't match up good against them.

Bama's defense is as close to an NFL one as possible on the college level. People fall in love with the flashy high scoring offenses but when they hit a defense with talent and discipline they get their butt handed to them.

I think Bama could lose in the SEC gauntlet before reaching the title but there is no way FSU or OU beat them if they make it.

A marginal and extermely young UCLA team kept da Ducks at 21 through 3 quarters this past weekend. The similarly young Bruin O (didn't they have like 3 frosh starters on the OL??) scored on this vaunted defense da Ducks supposedly have. If its Oregon Bama in the BCS NC game the Ducks won't even be able to give 'em a ball game. These duck drinking koolaid types posting around here always and easily forget the last trouncing they got with their vaunted schemes and fast athletes, LSU humbled and exposed them for what they are, a bunch of little fast guys looking for the sidelines ... Bama has a bunch of big fast guys that take your head off before you can find the sidelines. De Thomas won't make it til the end of the game if they get to play Bammer, he'll get broke like a popcicle stick.

'Bama matches Oregons speed and trumps them with dline/oline size and strength. Gonna be a LONG night for Oregon if/when they play.

I look forward to revisiting this in a few years.
Hroniss Grasu (who could be the top center next year) Tyler Johnstone, Jake Fisher, Taylor Hart, Deforest Buckner, Arik Armstead are all guys that will get drafted. Ifo Ekpre-Olomu might very well be the first CB to go *this* year. Avery Patterson and Brian Jackson also stand an excellent shot, as does the CB opposite Ifo, Terence Mitchell, eventually. Almost everyone that covers the sport nationally has touted Oregon's secondary as being among the best in the country this year. And if you consider how many snaps our defense plays, and what they give up on average per play, it's one of the best units in the nation.

Early in the season I would have given Oregon the nod. After the past couple of weeks, I think Bama wins. Saban will have a month to gameplan. Bama is bigger, disciplined, and will force Mariotta to scramble.

Believe me, if this becomes the BCS champeenship game, I will cheer my arse off for Oregon. But, I think Bama's defense is fast enough to make that high potent offense much less potent and they will play power ball on offense and push them all over the field. In other words, O's speed defense won't matter as they will be getting pancaked all night.

Great talent no doubt…no one has ever denied that Oregon has good players, nor has anyone denied that Oregon doesn't put guys into the NFL….

And no doubt that Oregon beats the crap out of ND last year in the championship--just like Bama did….

But--you gotta get it done on the field to get there. So--all of that talent being stockpiled up there in Eugene shouldn't have ANY problem running the table and getting into the NC game this year. :whistling:

I have been a college FB fan long enough to remember when folks didn't respect the SEC--and when some SEC teams got jumped in the polls by ND when they should not have been--so don't expect any sympathy from me.

I remember the dominant teams of the 80s to be Nebraska, Miami, Florida State, etc…etc….and how very good SEC teams got left out of the NC discussions in that period. I also remember in the mid-80s how Nebraska and Miami DOMINATED the polls.

I recall in the late 80s to mid 90s how Fla State had one of THE most dominant programs, but always seem to lose to Miami or to the Gators or at least one big game that kept them out of the NC game. FSU would have won at least 3 or 4 NCs back then if the BCS would have been in existence.

And I won't ever forget how the media and folks all over the country said our beloved VOLS did not deserve to be in the championship game--even though most of the players on both sides of the ball for us ended up in the NFL. And how even though we won that game, we were still less than worthy because we only beat a FSU team with a 2nd or 3rd string QB...

So--you Oregon whiners are nothing new…just "johnny-come-latelies." So--I HONESTLY do hope that you guys run it out and that Bama runs it out so you can get a taste of what we have to play EVERY YEAR in the regular season…

And, I do hope you get a chance to come back to this thread and take your lumps when Bama beats the Quacks. My prediction now: Bama 38 Oregon 24

I was not impressed with Alabama's secondary especially the CB's. We had a lot of open WR's. Also Alabama does not get pressure on the QB. I think either Oregon or FSU would make for an interesting game. I would personally like to see them play Oregon.

I really want to see them play each other. I think Bama wins, but I'm not positive.

Any team....any team at all...is BETTER THAN BAMMER.

And a few teams might just beat them. :)

My take is that FSU probably matches up better with bammer, but Oregon has a shot also.

Face it, the bammers have only faced a couple good teams this year...and we were not one of them. At least, not the team that showed up for the first half.

Their schedule is SUCH a joke. They play UK as their other opponent from the East, and in their OOC games, they have TWO FCS teams...Georgia State (winless at the OOC level!) and Chatanooga. SUCH a joke....

Eff that...I thought it was okay for Auburn to win a few years ago...I can even stomach LSU and Florida, especially the years they both beat the ever loving crap out of OSU.

But there is no way in HELL I will ever want bammer to win.

I would hope for 56-0 Oregon, but I will settle for flipping the above score...Oregon 38 crimson turd 24

But maybe it wont' even come to that...go Tigers! Both of em....
