Orangeslice13, a blessing to those around him…..Again

Thanks man.. I really appreciate that. I can use all the prayers and good vibes I can get. I have worked hard just to begin to get to this point.

8 out of 10 people who do what we do fail in the first year. The fact that you're still here and growing the business says something.

It's just hard work. I try to be smart about it and take only jobs that I can make money with. I keep my overhead extremely low. Just the necessities.

I have 3 rules that I follow..

1. Don't do anything stupid to get myself hurt or die.
2. Make money
3. If ever in doubt, refer to rule #1.

😀

Safety 3rd.

Did something I rarely do.. took a day off. Lol. Im beat and need a break. Think I'm going fishing.

Catch any?

Nope.. I was too lazy to even go fishing lol. I just relaxed and cooked a steak. I needed it.. was feeling tire and worn down. Went back to work today with a vengeance... Pulled about 1000 board feet of 1x and 2 x stuff.. poplar and oak.

Next building I start deconstructing I'm going to start a thread and track it's progress.
The steps and how I do it. What I salvage. Tools I use.. etc.

May not generate a lot of interest but I think jts pretty neat.

They'll be several keep up. Comp and Slice did the cabin thread, and several of us got into following it.

Looking forward to it. :good!:

Today's and yesterdays haul. Mixed 1x and 2x stuff. Should be really close to 2000 board feet. There is probably another 1000 board feet left of 2x stuff to grub out. This is 90% poplar and the rest is oak. I think I found some fir or spruce today as well. The grain seems too clean and straight to be regular pine. But then again wood was a lot better back 150 years ago. I got drowned today working in this mess. Lol

I was soaked.. and between the sweat, the rain, and the 150 off years of accumulated dust and whatever, I smelled like a sack full of buttholes. Lol

I was ready for a shower. But even my worse days doing this are better than my best days working for someone else.

Some days I miss sawdust all over me, and the smell. I used to grade lumber at a lumber yard, actually what I went to school for. You mentioning board feet made me think about it.

These are the cleanest, straightest 2x stuff I have ever seen. Very rare to get a bad one out. I'm really surprised at the consistency. Usually you get them and they are bowed some or usually quarter sawn and have heavy checking and cracking. These are really nice.. someone is gonna be happy with them. Definitely furniture grade stuff.
