Orangeslice13, a blessing to those around him…..Again

Well.. blew ANOTHER trailer tire on I-40 today hauling a load. Have no idea why it blew. Always check the tires before I hit the road and everything looked fine.

Heard/felt it blow and looked in the rear view mirror just in time to see a piece of tire fly 20 feet in the air. Pulled over and it was peeled like a grape. It was like the tire was a retread and the cap came off.. but it wasn't a retread.

Just another action packed day!!😀😀

On the bright side....it looks like you've got a nice load of reclaimed lumber.
What are your plans for it?

Already sold it. Was on my way to my buyer when it happened. I can't wait to get another diesel truck and can pull my gooseneck again.. these small 1000 board feet loads have me running a lot.

Being able to take entire barns in one trip again would help tremendously. Plus I'm trying to break into the Florida market (sells way higher there) and need to be able to take as much as possible to customers down there. I have a couple just about ready to commit. One basically has already, we are just negotiating prices.

That's cool man. Do you take down old building too? Or is this an isolated incident? Lol

I put them back together again.
(It's in my contracts that I get to keep "all finds and salvage ")

Cool man.. I don't have the patience anymore for putting them back together lol. Usually by the time I get to them they are too far gone anyway. I do the same. I do a walk through with the owner and I ask them if there is anything they wish to keep. I explain to them that once I begin and take control of the building and demolition begins anything within 5 feet of the building is mine, including underground and overhead. Lol

Edit - but I usually will pass something along to the owner that I find. I try to find something that would mean something to them because they are the ones that are attached to the memories of that building.

That's being good people.
Not bad for business either

Picked up my first customer in Florida today. Just finished negotiating the prices. It's about a 60% increase in what I get paid for the same.item in Tennessee. And on some items it's double in price.

Heck yes.. been a good day.

Why do they pay so much better?
Is it a supply and demand type thing?

And.......congrats

Main reason is that there are no barns in Florida. So all items like that have to be shipped in. In some markets in Florida they pay up to 3 times what it sells for retail in Tennessee. You can get barnwood anywhere in Tennessee, Kentucky, W. Virginia.. etc.. not so much in Florida.

It was a good day but the customer I picked up is actually in the worst market in Florida for barnwood. But he is still selling 2 to 4000 board feet a month, just not as high of a retail price . Orlando, Tampa, Sarasota.. the margins in those markets are huge.. I'm working on a couple more in those areas now.

Plus items like grey board are pretty easy for a contractor to use because they appear "beachy". Lol. (their words not mine).

Now if I can get my manufacturing end straightened out and can offer flooring and wall board.. I'll be golden.
