Go ahead, call me optimistic, but here are my keys to the next two ball games, of course not looking much further than that. The media can say all they want, they can bash us, such as I get a text message from a buddy when I'm waiting on Vol Walk yesterday, telling me Herbstreit says we cannot compete in the SEC this year, and then last night on College Gameday Final after I make it back home from Knoxville, Herbstreit is retracting his remarks and apologizing, about how Tennessee looked very excellent and a high place finish is not unlikely in the SEC, whatever, screw the media.

Now, UCLA, I caught a little bit last night after we made the trip back home, against an inferior San Diego State team, but hey, they are better than WKU, I mean 20 times better than WKU, but UCLA shoulda realistically hung about 45-50 points on them but they couldn't. The Bruins were plauged by a couple of injuries, especially their number one cornerback going down, I believe Hester is his name, most likely out for the season. Based on our performance yesterday, to feel anywhere close to good going into the Florida matchup, I say if we can put up anywhere between 31-40 points, and hold UCLA to about 10, I'll feel real confident about the dog fight that's going to ensue the following week in the swamp.

Now, to the Gators, they played a 1-AA school last night that WKU is 10 times better than and it took Florida longer to hang the points than it did us. Tebow looked a little bit sluggish, but hell, it was Charleston Southern, you know, that tough ass OOC schedule that Florida plays every year. I truly believed after all that played out yesterday, for example, UGALY looks like ****, it's going to be a long season in Athens, and on Thursday, even though, they were really no threat, South Carolina only put up 7 against NC State. I just truly feel and believe that in two weeks, the Florida, Tennessee Winner will be in Atlanta in December. To beat the Gators, the Vols have got to be riding high, take it to the Bruins, and then go to the Swamp, and then on the gators first possession, make a statement, and If I know Kiffin, most likely he will. Now, I'm not saying play dirty or try anything sneaky, but If we have to take a 15 yard penalty, just lay into Tebow for a late hit one time, just to let him know that Big Orange is here and they are not leaving without a fight. Now to touch on that, before anyone gets pissed or makes a smartass remark *Cough Lawgator Cough*, Tebow and the Gators cannot win from behind, he has never had to play from behind, such as Ole Miss rattled them, they couldn't win, no matter what they tried, they couldn't do it, two years ago UGA hit them in the mouth, they had to play from behind, and they couldn't do it. Tennessee has to make a statement and make it early, offense has to be on cue, and the intensity and adrenaline has to be at the highest this season.

I'll see all of you at the UCLA game this weekend and then hopefully some of you guys down in Gainesville next weeked, GO BIG ORANGE, and I hope we can continue this great start and turn it into a successful season, maybe Berry taking home Heisman Honors, and Kiffin being named Coach Of The Year.

We cannot be too fired up for the UF game. Being too high emotionally has screwed us for years. Remember how fired up Spurrier got the Vols in 96-97? Bad times when your emotion is over your execution.

If you want a sneaky play, you get a scrub to start a fight with an important player before the game. It would be like a walkon punching a Pouncey Twin and then thanking God his helmet protects him from dying in the ensuing maelstrom.

You will not provoke Tebow into doing something stupid, but there are lots of other guys on the team who might steal your ATM card or shoot an AK 47 at you if you disrespect their mama.

I don't know how you can't be excited, Espically for the game this weekend. I remember having felt like i was punched in the stomach after the game last year. I can't stand UCLA and no way they travel across country, come into our home and think they will win. Our D is too much for UCLA's Offense. Our Running game looked unstoppable, not just aginst WKU but in practice as well. If Hardesty, Brown, or Oku can't break off some runs and get the offense going, I don't think there is a college running back right now that can. We have alot of pieces jelling together right now, just hold on to the football and we will win. First game gitters out of the way, now its time to open up the play book and see what we really got.

I love the fact that Kiff was PO'ed at half time because we had not hung 4 to 5 TD's on WKU yet. This guy has got it. Get us back to being the bad a$$ VOLS we once were. I am pumped. GO VOLS

I don't want to look ahead of the UCLA game, but the Florida game will come down to who can churn out the most yards on the ground and who can protect the ball. I am confident that we can churn out some yards on the ground, but I know Florida will have some big runs on us as well. Therefore, protecting the ball is the biggest X factor for the game.

I have tempered my expectations for the game and I expect us to lose the turnover battle and lose the game, but that doesn't mean that I would not love to be proven wrong. GO VOLS!!!!

This is the way I see it:

Enjoyed reading this thread. I'm not a fortune teller, but if we execute as well as we did against WKU on both offense and defense... I think we beat UCLA by several touchdowns at least. We CAN'T lose our 1st string linebackers and our second string will have to play much better than they did against WKU. I think Monte will make some adjustments however to account for the difference in talent that exists when our 1st string LBs need rest. Then again, they may not need it if our running game is successful and hogs the clock.

Still, I believe our Freshman will be a little shocked at how much the talent increases this coming Saturday, and it will affect them in the first half. But not nearly as much as it would if they were on the road. The fact that UCLA is playing here is what I think will keep the first half balanced and put us in the position to run away with it in the second half. Our Freshman will properly adjust in the second half. Our older guys will continue playing 100% and I think Bryce has an incredible second half against UCLA. I think he will probably separate himself from OKU. Something you all may find worth debating/considering and that is I also think that Poole may get a few more carries when that starts to happen.

I haven't seen anybody mention Poole's short performance against WKU, but he looked REALLY good and from what I remember, looked to be a much bigger back. I read that Oku actually thought WKU was good. Now, he may have just been paying the other team respect... but if not, I think he struggles a bit and Poole gets his shot for 3rd string.

The rest of the season? Well, there's a lot these Freshman still have not experienced and I think the biggest shock will be an SEC road/rival game. I think we probably get our butts handed to us in Gainesville. Our Freshman will get BEAT UP and they will be shell shocked in the first half. I read something about Florida overlooking us this year. NOPE. I don't think peopleq realize what's coming.

However, I think if we are fortunate, we very much could adjust a bit in the second half and make up some lost ground to keep the game from becoming a runaways and give us momentum going into the rest of the season. I really hope this game doesn't send us home with a ton of injuries... but instead... stronger, more confident and hungry for more opportunities to win.

If I am wrong here, and we win, then we are looking at a contender for the National Championship as of week three in Lane Kiffin's first year and I just think that is way too far fetched of a thing to consider at this point. Not many stranger things have happened. If we completely crush UCLA... I will entertain that thought with little seriousness. Very little.

But as far as what these people are worried about, I think a couple of them are right about the importance of the Florida game... but again I think it's important even if you go ahead and mark us down for an L. Our performance during that game is huge. I still can't do that 100% though!

Why HUGE? Well, if we get stomped into the dirt... that will hurt our momentum and will leave the rest of the season more in question in my opinion for the fans, the coaches and the players. I believe performances feed off of all that. BUT, if we perform well in that second half of the game ON THE ROAD IN GAINESVILLE, our team will leave that game with their heads held high and still believing they can beat their opponents. They probably will leave wishing for a fifth quarter or already marking 2010 FLA vs TN in Neyland on their calendars. They will be hungrier to win against the opponents they have the remainder of the season. If we remain healthy as well, we will be a very tough team to beat! A good second half in the FLA game and staying healthy gets our team no more than three losses--being @FLA, @ALA and @Ole Miss.

I think we will probably lose all three of those games mainly because they are all on the road. If they were all played at home, I would give UT one of them. We have a much tougher SEC western division schedule this year and that hurts us as far as eastern division rankings, but who cares, FLA is in our division.

If we play UCLA tight and win and get stomped by Florida, then I think a lot of conversation will change and we will be as nervous about us as these people are, but in a different way!

Still, judging on what I just saw on Saturday, I really think our program goes to a BCS bowl next year and we at LEAST play for a NC or play in a controversial BCS bowl game where we have every right to play for the NC (I think we all know that is a fair consideration to point out) in Lane's third or fourth year. Third, again, my prediction on the UCLA game is correct and we have that strong second half in our game against them.

Sorry for any redundancy... I'm tired. Going to bed!

Yes, but we gotta get those first road game/rival jitters out of the way and it's against Florida... but what better way is there to do it if you are looking at building a program as opposed to a more short sighted concept such as this season. (Not calling you short sighted, I just spent the last hour writing about my projections for this season! LOL)

Ridiculous. WKU and CSU would play an even game. In fact, the coaching at CSU was way better. I watched both games. CSU was much better prepared.

That and the intensity was totally different. UF came out and played a scrimmage, UT came out to destroy someone.

Crompton was in until the 4th quarter, Tebow out before the end of the 2nd. Etc...
